My 8 Gallon Biocube

I have been meaning to get pictures up but my terrible cameras just cannot take clear shots with the leds on. This is all run off of an external power supply. And yes, the knobs are to dim the leds. I have one wired to the blues and one for the whites so I can adjust them separately to get the right brightness and color. Pm me if you have any other questions if you want sollie!

Oh ok cool that will be nice to be able to dim both colors. Yeah I'll pm you if I have anymore questions. Sorry I took up alot of your thread with them but I kept thinking of things haha

Haha don't worry, you can fill this thread with comments/questions if you want. I don't mind lol

A quick update on the bc8:

The LED's are nice. Gives me nice color and shimmer, but little to no heat so my temps stay stable and evaporation is minimal.

For those who are wondering about coral growth and color, from what I see:

Zoas: They are multiplying very quickly but have shrunk in size. I have these yellow skirt zoas with an orange ring with a larger white/grey center, but after being under the LED's for a while, the centers shrunk to a mere dot. My palys aren't responding too well though. My giant green palys do not fully open all the way except for the SEVERAL new polyps that have grown. My nuclear greens have turned an ugly yellow-ish color, but it has sprouted a new head and the mat is starting to expand.

Softies: My ricordeas have turned to just 1 color basically and do not inflate fully. The leathers are growing nicely and seem to respond VERY well to the LEDs. Green center clove polyps were ok for a while but they started shrinking a bit and closed last night and havent opened yet.

SPS: I acquired a green slimer frag from phi because we wanted to see how SPS respond to the light. The frag initially lost a lot of color on the base. The polyps were still a rich green, bit the base became very tan. However, the base is slowly regaining color and is turning a neon green color; not quite there yet though. Polyp extension is very good though.

Coralline algae is spotting all over my rocks. It seems like it won't be long before it gets covered.

It's still too soon to see how everything grows but so far I like it, minus the fact that softies (minus my leathers) are doing poorly. Maybe they just weren't adjusted to the light long enough.

Ok well here are a couple of pics. I still do not have a decent camera so I have no choice but to use my droid phone camera. It does not take good pictures of the bright tank.

I also picked up a cleaner shrimp today. Soon after drip acclimating him, he found a cave to hide in. The clown kept going up to him and turned to his side to be cleaned but the shrimp just sits there. I wonder if he just needs to get used to the tank and the clown.

here's a side shot of the tank. Phi was kind enough to give me a few sps frags to see how they do under the LED's. Thanks phi! The birdsnest you gave me already has noticeable growth.

Are you dosing with anything? Are you using 3 blues and 3 whites or 2 blues and 4 whites?

I don't dose at the moment since I am not testing for anything except ammonia/trites/trates/ph. I do weekly 1 gallon wc's and everything seems to be doing well. Maybe once I get a good test kit I may dose with something simple like kent 2part if need be.

I am running 4 blues and 4 whites.

Quick update. I know my pics are crappy.. Hopefully I can get myself a dslr for Christmas this year or something, lol. Until then, my droid camera will have to suffice.

Lol... my hammer wants something..

So.. it's been quite a while since ive updated. Ive been busy with classes and work so I've neglected my tank a lot. Cyano outbreaks, flatworms galore, and didnt do a single water change in a few months lol. However, I decided to do some maintenance on the tank this week. Still doing daily water changes and sucking up as many flatworms and cyano as possible in the process. My clownfish grew a lot and i might have to get rid of him soon as he's growing a bit too big for the tank. He has decided to accept the small hammer as his host. Here are some pictures:

I love the colors that the LED brings out under the LEDs. Much more vibrant and the growth is actually really good. Most of the zoas/palys on that rock (not the rock with the kenya tree on it) were 1-2 polyp frags. Also the orange zoas and the 2 polyps of the yellow skirt zoas were actually small remnants of the mat left over after pulling the actual frag out. Grew pretty quick in just a month.

Do you still keep this next to your computer? I would love to put a little biocube next to mine, but I would be a bit nervous doing water changes...
