Just got it today. Tyree LE Watermelon. About 1" across. And I thought LE SPS corals were pricey.

Very nice Dave. I fragged my Tyree earlier in the week. Waiting for the frags to heal. :)

I guess I didn't see any at your place? You have acans, though, right?

Did you get yourself that band saw guys were talking about on R2R?

No used a dremel with diamond blade bit. Worked good for the watermelon but not so good for the Mummy Eye. Maybe a few of us should go in on a band saw?

I've used those dremel diamond wheels for fragging Montiporas, but I am about as new to chalice corals as you can be. I wont need to worry about fragging for a long time!

Yes I have acans and they are not cheap but a little cheaper IMO then chalices. I am sure I will get some after I have all the acans I want. LOL

One of my concerns is that they seem to grow slow. Also a lot seem to quit growing there skeleton and mostly encrust what ever they are on.

Is this a correct observation all you chalice guru's out there.

yeah, my chalice is "encrusting" my sandbed right now!

Nice pick up Dave

Nice pick up Dave

Thanks Raj.

If you place the chalice on the sand, I would guess is spreads out in a flat, plate like pattern, then if you want to frag it you lift it up and you have a nice flat chalice to frag from that is not attached to anything.

If you place it on a rock, I would guess it forms it's shape to the rock, which probably makes for difficult fragging.

Dave

I wounder what causes them to grow this way. I guess they must be growing way faster in our tanks or they need something we are not providing.

Raj does your have any structure to it or is it mostly flesh?

They are beautiful no matter how they grow.

Envious over here Joe

I don't think it has any structure, no. I think it's just hard flesh and it's pretty flat. The initial frag is fat, but all of the growth looks like it spilled over, like a puddle.

I think they have a thin calcarous skeleton, but nothing really thick. People wanting to frag these would have them grow flat on the sand, I would think. Easier cutting.

I guess I not really concerned about being able to frag it. I would like to have a few big plating one's though.

How about the wild ones that have not been fraged. Do they continue to grow in a plating form or do grow like the frags?
