My first disaster and probably my last.

im right there with you man im recovering from a stupid mistake i made and now all my sps look like crap and ive lost a couple. its taken its toll on me and my thoughts about how risky this hobby is but in the end its something i love doing and i dont plan on leaving any time soon and i hope you wont either

After 4 water changes..I managed to clear the water up a little bit. It is still a little cloudy. The SPS aren't getting worse but still are bleached and brown looking. Apparently when the chiller broke, it leaked some refrigerant oil into the system. I have managed to wet-skim for the past several days and constantly changing out my carbon reactor. I am hoping that will help with the oil contamination. The only good new is I can still see polyp extensions but dont' know what the long term consequences will be. I guess this could be like a mini oil spill happening in the ocean.

Again, thank you to everyone for the support.

Trinh I'm so sorry to hear about this. I don't have enough experience to offer any helpful advice, nor do have any extra supplies to offer but I can offer my time and manual labor if you need any help! It would be my pleasure to do so! So please don't hesitate to ask.

I also want to encourage you. Don't give up one of your passions. The sheer impressivness of your tank before this freak accident (that no one could have foreseen or prevented in any realistic way) is a testament to how much you care about it. Also your sadness/frustration is a direct correlary to that as well. Without these things we are passionate about in our lives ( not just reefing, but anything) life would be a lot less colorful and interesting. There can't be a mountain top without a valley. Good luck with this, and let me know if I can be of any help.

I am very sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to me more than a year ago when I was out of town for a week. It started with ATO pump and then Return pump ran dry, burned out and then Chiller was shut down... Your tank always gives me inspiration. Please don't give up.

I know how it feels, but i would hate to see you leave the hobby for a minor hiccup. Yank some extra teeth and restock .

It's not like if you lost all your corals and members wouldn't give you replacement frags free of charge! I know I would.....

And I know many more would....

The fact that you're considering getting out I would assume one of two things. You're ready for a break and this is the perfect opportunity or you're frustrated by the loss. Either way I'm sure you'll make the right decision and everyone here will respect and appreciate you for it.

Best of luck.
