OK so here is a shot of my first coral ever! I am pretty excited as you can tell by me making a whole thread dedicated to this momentous occasion!

So after its first 24 hours...does all look well? I did not remember that bottom branch hanging down from the plug looking like that when she went in the tank, but I can't be sure...it LOOKS like it has little tentacles hanging out of each of the dark orange spots....like fuzz.

Alright! Tim is great. I got my first SPS from him one year ago...almost to the day. It is a pink birdsnest. Literally started as a toothpick....now its a full softball colony!! I think there's a pick in my signature link.
Congrats:)

He told me the opposite...but my water parameters are good, got a great skimmer, and a very light bioload right now not gunking up my tank so he gave me "the heartiest one he could find" :)

I missed that memo!!!!!! It is very much the opposite.

I think he was being facetious about the beginner coral. Unless he meant GSP perhaps?

LOL, I should have gotten that.........

You never see anyone ripping Acropora out of a tank complaining that it takes over like a weed......

SPS' are difficult, but this birdsnest would be a good one to try to cut your teeth with to get the hang of things. The Frag looks good. Good luck on keeping it happy.

Haha! Actually my BN drop branches like crazy-I have to keep "picking up sticks" unless I want a forest.

Congrats on the frag CJsparky! BN's are a great beginner SPS. They grow quick.

LOL, tell me about it. I have a couple huge 2-3" frags of tubs purple polyp birdnest sitting on my frag rack right now just waiting to go to a new home, heh.

Looks like I have a touch of cyano or green slime taking up on the shelf right next to the frag, so I pointed a PH around 15 inches away at the coral to improve flow in the area...right thing to do?

The little reddish brown polyps??? are really extended today.

AugustaSalty;463916 wrote: not a bad beginner coral. That "fuzz" you mentioned are the polyps extending which is a good sign. The branch hanging down has just grown that way. I promise it was that way when it was put in your tank. This is a hard coral and cannot flex or move, how it grows is just how it is.

The funny thing is that branch growing down is white, and when the water flow hits it it wiggles around like its a tentacle...not hard. After aiming the PH at the coral, the polyps have withdrawn a bit. Should I let it get used to the flow, or move the PH again?

He took advantage of my free SPS give away. I told him it was not a beginner coral, but of all the free SPS, bird nest would IMO be the easiest. But, he has all the right equipment and parameters.

Picked up a few more pieces here and there...My favorite so far is the torch...it came out about an hour after placing it in the tank. The birdnest frag seems to be really happy so far, great polyp extension as far as I can tell.

I thought they needed some decent flow, but Ill move the powerhead...
