well guys im goin today to get something from my LFS I am having them test my water make sure my cycle is done and then I wanted to buy something from them. I want to get my clean up crew from Itsfishybusiness.com great prices seems like a good guy. But also i want to support the LFS and give them some business cause they have been great helping me get set up so what should i buy? maybe a fish cheap of some kind that is pretty hardy gets along with everything or should i just pick up a star or pepp. shrimp or something?

I will eventually have clowns as these will be i guess the main point in my tank just something fun to watch and decorate the room with.

so what should i get guys?

I wanted to thank everyone that has helped me get this thing set up and I appreciate all the help you guys have given me:thumbs:

o yeah i think the lady at the LFS suggested a goby of some kind as my first cause they were only 14.99 just to make sure I wasnt gonna kill somethign expensive.

29 gallon FOWLR just want some colorful stuff....nothing aggresive nothing big would liek to have a starfish some hermits all the basic CUC but also just some hardy colorful fish that i can mix with with other colorful fish haha if that makes sense.

I took a look at the beginner fish section on the dr. foster and smith web site and they have the tank breed ocellaris clowsn for 11.99 a piece would these be a good order sometime down the road?

Suggestion:

Also, as for "something in the tank that's fun to watch", it's amazing how much we've just been sitting there staring at the busy little critters that game in the CleanUpCrew from I.F.B.

But, of course.... we're pretty pathetic and easily amused.

:D

yeah the CUC I am gonna pick up sunday from I.F.B if that means its fishy business then we are on the same page haha.

But yeah i cant get that until sunday so just wanted to pick up something today from the LFS for them testing my water and helping me out so far.

i would wait on putting a fish in just yet. i would put in the CUC first and wait a few weeks for the tank to adjust. then add a fish and wait a month or so. then another and so on. you might want to take this time to figure out what fish you want and what order they should be added (agression reasons). DO NOT RUSH ANYTHING IN THIS HOBBY - IT ONLYCOSTS YOU MORE MONEY. especially with a small tank

that being said, i have a yellow watchmangoby, two false perc clowns, and a sixline wrasse in my 20 gallon. i added them in that order as well. this combo gives me good color variation. the goby hangs out on the bottom, the clowns swim around out front, and the wrasse swims in and out of the rocks. this is just an example

ok thanks for the help. what if i bought something that was part of a clean up crew such as a pepp. shrimp that does not come with the package I am buying?

We got a serpent star and an emerald crab with our CUC, so you can get some interesting critters to watch and not just boring ol' snails and hermits.

Although, we find ourselves watching the hermits. Pretty fascinating how they're back and forth roto-tilling the sand constantly. (We've named the two larger ones Troy-Bilt and ATillerTheHun). :D

If you do choose a star for your CUC, we're told acclimating them is trickier since they can't take much variance on the PH. Stevhan showed us how to drip-acclimate ours.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

we started with a yellow clown goby. he doesn't hide out in a cave like the watchman. cool little fish for my nano.

I would add in some inverts first and then start looking for my fish in a few days. I would also suggest thinking it out as you don't want to end up with an aggressive fish and want a peace tank or vice-versa.

You could always start off with some chromis, grammas, hawkfish, gobies (watchman variety are good), some wrasses are extremely beautiful just make sure to get an appropriate size one and clowns are always a favorite.

As has been mentioned, the first step in saving money would be to join the club and check our sponsors for locations and discounts. Some are as high as 30%.

And don't sweat your LFS vs. other vendors here. Spreading it around helps all the stores as does hunting for great deals, like Stevhan's cleanup crews. The LFS doesn't have everything, Stevhan doesn't have everything, and the mail order shops don't either. In the end, you have a certain amount of money to spend in the hobby. Getting the best bang for that buck will keep you interested and coming back.

To take a page from The Sopranos: never fleece the mark completely. Take a little and he'll keep coming back for more.

In case you didn't figure it out, you're the mark.

well guys i went my water was perfect and they had chromis on sale for 4 bux a piece i just picked up 2 of them and some brine shrimp to feed them.

I am gonna wait a week and then go pick up my CUC from stevhan.]

He said they 20 lbs of LR comign from an established tank seemed to have really helped cause all my levels were exactly where they should be.

could've just been feeding me BS but they have been really honest so far so i went with it.
