My first tank build...suggestions welcome

So I spent most of last night contemplating all the advice I got regarding possible tank size/type. I am thinking seriously about the breeder tank option. I think it would afford more surface area and would provide an overall better experience for both myself and any potential livestock. I think the extral width and stoutness are definitely positives, especially when working inside the tank.

The next question is: If I elect to go with, say, a 50 (36x18x18) gallon breeder tank instead of a 40 (36x18x16), is there anything I would need to know regarding setup differences? I would imagine that that it would be identical, simply larger.

Additionally, would you guys advise that I invest in a sump/refugium setup for a tank of this size or would it be a better idea to start looking at HOB filtration methods?

Thanks!

David

Welcome! You definitely want to get as much of your equipment and livestock from the Trading/Selling forum as you can. Your budget will go much further, and you'll get great advice as well.

I've been routinely checking the trading/selling forum. I will likely post something in the want to buy forum shortly, once I figure out my exact equipment needs.

That 50 will give your eyes two more inches of vertical view. Slightly less surface to volume ratio, but with a good refugium and flow that's no biggie. I like things vertically integrated, with the 'fuge down below, over the the top (or both) of the main display.
