I got my new 24" two module AI fixture in on Monday. The fixture is newly updated, and uses 24 three watt LEDs per cluster, one blue and two white. The white LEDs are Cree XP-Gs and the blue are Cree XR-Es. There is a round optics piece on each cluster, and that is divided into three lenses each, one for each LED. The optics resemble a funnel with the spout end cut off. The narrower part sits right on top of the LEDs, and the wider part is what you see in the pictures. It comes with a controller so you can set how much blue and white light you want independently of each other, so you basically have Kelvin on demand, one feature I really like about this light.
I just got it assembled on the mounting rails. The style is a bit industrial and very different from anything I have had before. I also purchased a hanging kit, and will probably hang this fixture, but for now it will sit on the top of the tank.
I was originally going to buy the 72" six module system for my 210 gallon SPS system, but decided since LEDs are new to me and not quite proven, I would try two module system on my 24" cube and my 30" chalice tank, and if it grows SPS on the bottom of the tank instead of just on the top part of the reef, then I'd drop the cash to get 4 more modules and do the 210 with LED lighting. This is another thing I love about the AI system: it is modular, so you can add or subtract modules as your needs change. I have a 30" rail coming so I can use it on top of my chalice tank.
More pics to come. I hope to have it in place tomorrow and fired up. This thing is bright to say the least.
