I have started this thread for the purpose of having a single home for all of my past (and future!) build thread links, to keep them all in one easily accessible place for when I want to show friends and whatnot. I'll continue to add my aquarium-related projects here as they are built. Hopefully the DIY'ers out there can take away a helpful thing or two from my projects.

Take care,
Dustin

Dustin.... Your woodworking skills are awesome! Thanks for all the help you've given me.

Yep, the renderings are from SketchUp. You simply position the model the way you want it, and export a 2D image to JPEG. Then upload the pic to a photo sharing service (I use PhotoBucket) and link it...that's all there is to it.

whatever, you've got NO SKILZ !!!

These sketches do NO justice to your work. I was at TChristmans last week and about flipped when he opened up the frag tank stand. Killer concept.

I hope I get to work with you on some future builds.

+1 saw this stand in person thought it was amazing

This weekend I finished building a modern style stand for sra_chipmunk (Tom) to house his 60g cube. The construction is all 3/4" birch ply with concealed hardware and gloss white paint. The stand has a front and side door, as well as an electrical shelf with eight outlets.

Below are renderings from my design model, which Tom and I perfected before the physical build process began.

The back panel is hidden in the picture below, showing the plumbing route through the top of the stand, behind the electrical panel, and into the sump area below.

The stand framework is held together using wood glue and pocket screws with rabbets/dados. This makes for a very strong case while maximizing the usable space inside the stand.

The electrical shelf area was primed & painted before the top was put on, as the area behind the electrical outlets won't be accessible for painting later.

A large cutout was made in the side panel for sump access from the side door. Smaller cutouts were routed for hinge installation.

Cutouts had to be made in the right side panel to accommodate the front door hinges.

Almost seems like a crime to paint it! Crazy cool design for a cube stand.

psipro;619334 wrote: I agree the stand looks great. Did that junction box come pre-wired?

No, it's a standard 4-gang box with four receptacles that I wired up with 12ga extension cord.

Ugly work as usual Dustin.

It'd be nice if you learned how to clean up your builds a little better.

Nice work. You do a great job of documentation too!

This is beautiful wood work, you seriously got skills. I definitely will come to you in the future for some wood projects, if by any chance you still taking it or doing it.
