Hey everyone I'm looking at doing an LED tank an would like to see fellow reefers tanks with LED's. I'm looking at the Ecoxotic 12 watt panorama the white and blue combination. Would like to see pictures of that type of setup. I'm going to put two of these strips over my 24, just wondering if it will be to white. Thanks!

I have just one of the strips in my 12g and its perfect. it is for sure not to white but not to blue as well, perfect for my taste. Dont have any pics at the moment however

Good to hear, should I be fine with 2 strips over my 24 gallon to keep softies and possibly a BTA down the road? I just don't want the lights to have that white out effect. I don't know much about LED's and thank you for your input.

Ive kept plenty of softies, zoas, and a small sps for over a year now under it so no problem there but I dont know much about bta's, however, I believe Jenn at Imagine Ocean has one in a 12g with the Ecoxotic, I'd check with her though for sure.

As for knowing much about LED's, I know zero so Its nice having a great plug and play for a nano

Yep I've seen the RBTA in Jenn's, very nice looking tank and the kind of look I'm going for. I just hope that it was the white/blue combination on her tank. Thanks

Heres the thread that pushed me over the edge to getting one

Have fun!

I'm going to get 2 strips, the white and blue combination. I should get the same color effect as Jens 12 as for my 24 right? Thanks

Edit: Would I get enough light if I went with an all blue one and then the white blue combo?

Id say that with having two of the blue/white modules you would get the same color that you saw with Jenn's.

But I dont know what impacts there might be having one blue and one blue/white. I would think you could still keep/grow soft corals and it would definitely give you that nice blue look though
However, corals do grow very with 10,000K "white" light. Either way seems to have its pros/cons, as does most everything else in this hobby!

ive retrofit a BC29 with LEDs, there is a build thread here

Thank you all for the help. Great looking build. Malawian do you think I will get good coral growth if I went with an all blue and then the white/blue combo? Thanks!

all blue is CRAZY blue...like ugly windex on crack blue...

what MOST people prefer is 2:1 royal blue:neutral white. on my setup I have my blues at 100% intensity and my whites at about 30%. this isnt for color so much as too much intensity, granted i do have 27 crees which is...well overkill...and at 100% on both channels my SPS bleach and my LPS/softies try to hide in themselves...

so here are a few things to keep in mind:
-get dimmable ballasts
-you will need whites or else use some t5s or MHs to get your white (but then that sort of defeats the purpose of LEDs)
-keep in mind that LEDs are like spotlights, you need to have enough to cover the tank
-if you want alot of intensity at depth (which depends on the depth of course) you will need to use optics, that also focuses the light more and means less coverage so keep that in mind as well.
-I run my LEDs at 750 mA and not 1000 mA (which is what you CAN run them at) and i still have plenty of intensity. this decreases heat output and makes the LEDs last longer.

any other questions let me know

Much appreciated an thank you for all the info. Malawian I'm looking at getting the Ecoxotic, which combination would be best for me. I'm looking at getting the two 12 watt panorama strips. Thanks a bunch.

Edit: Just so you know the options are the all white strip, the combo strip 8 white 4 blue, or the all blue. Hope this helps.

Will do, at the LFS here is a 12 with just 1 on it and it seems to do quite well. I will go ahead and order the combo I just don't want to have a white out effect

oh you wont trust me.

check this out, he uses ecoxotics (and is QUITE knowledgable on reefing)

Sounds good I'm going to go ahead and place my order now. Thank you and I will check that video out once I get home.

That little tank of ours is still going strong. The RBTA split a couple of times and we just have a tiny bit left, but it will grow :) (sold the rest...one tiny split didn't make it - caught in the overflow mishap).

We have 1 combo strip in there. We've retrofitted a number of 29g Biocubes and there are a couple of different combination possibilities. Now they make an 8K white which they didn't always do. You could do a combo and a blue or a white and a blue.

Placing an order? (Don't forget us locals who can get 'em for ya!)
