Hi there! I’m looking for a fish to put into the 40b that can keep the amphipod population in check. These guys get rather large, and while I haven’t noticed them damaging any coral yet, I’d rather start putting a dent in the population sooner rather than later. So, what would be a good option to go into a 40b that would actively hunt large amphipods? The larger ones are pushing 1/2” at this point.

The best option would be any of the Wetmorella possum wrasses. Sixlines and damsels are a-holes, but possums are peaceful, intelligent and social creatures. I have a pair of Nigropinnatus in my 125g and they are some of my favorite fish I've ever owned.

Oh, that’s a cool little fish! I’ll have to see if anywhere nearby has any or can order one for me.

I'm reading that the pink streak wrasse, anecdotally, is better for pest control.
I was going to mention those, they're on my planned livestock list, what with being about the only type of wrasse that will be safe-for and happy-in my setup - at least so far as I've been able to determine.

Unfortunately I've not seen any sign of the amphipods I got from Hunna since I put them in... hopefully they survived introduction🤞

They survived, don’t worry. You only added like 25 to a decent sized tank. Grab a flashlight an hour or 2 after your lights are off, you’ll see them 😉
