Nassarius - Truth or Rumor?

Cones are venomous, and dangerous to you. Nassarius snails have a soft proboscis not capable of stabbing anything.

Whelks, on the other hand, have a "spear". Some whelks can resemble Nassarius snails.

I've been keeping/selling Nassarius snails for over 10 years, with no issues. They are omnivores so they will eat meaty food (why they come out when you feed the tank). I suppose they'll consume a carcass that's left to rot, that's part of what they do, but they won't harm anything healthy and alive.

You have any now? I need to improve my CUC a bit.

wow on the cone snail vid....I was just talking with Jenn the other day - I've had about 15 fish go missing over the last 12 months and trying to figure out what the black hole is - no sign of the bodies. We were thinking predator but I hear no clicking of a mantis.

Not really. I'd say that they look similar at best. An experienced hobbiest should be able to tell nassarius from welks from cones.
