Need help identifying issue with fish...
The goby has been acting weird for a few days but this is the first time we have noticed his tail. Yesterday we noticed some red in his face. I’m thinking it’s a bacterial issue but wanted to see what others think. In the tank with him are a pair of clowns, a one spot blenny and a peppermint shrimp. He’s the only one looking different at all.

I am not a "fish disease expert", however he looks malnurished to me...

what are you feeding? and how often?

The tank gets Rods in the evening and pellets mid day. I see him eating and sifting sand as he always has.

Yeah I see him eat daily... Now, I can't be sure he's eating enough but there is more then enough food in the tank.

I had a diamond goby. It was a fully grown one. He got a red tint my his lip/mouth. And the sand thing was happening to his tail like yours. Well I treated him and the reddish color didn't go away so we just left him with it and he was fine. And for the tail it turned out that a crab got ahold of it. The fish was fine for about 7 months later but decided to jump out. I'm not saying that you fish isn't sick or anything just thought I might say this. And make sure you do feed it ALOT. These things eat like pigs.

Its been confirmed that its a bacterial infection. He's now in a QT with antibiotics.

Wish you the best of luck on treating it. These fish are awesome with HUGE personality.

I'm late to the game with this one but I concur that it's a bacterial infection. Good call on the QT with antibiotics. What are you treating him with? Are you spiking food or treating the water? If it's the latter, make sure you don't have carbon filtration in the QT or it will pull all the medicine out.

Any idea how it happened? Might be a mechanical injury that got infected but how the injury may have happened might be good to know in case a repeat can be prevented.

The tail tissue should grow back in a week or so provided the infection is caught.

Not sure if the cloudiness in the eyes/face are related - they could be something else too, so keep an eye on that. Once a fish is weakened by something, all the pathogens can 'pile on'.

He might be a bit thin - could be because he's sick, could be that is part of the cause. Might want to deworm him before he goes back into the display. Metronidazole & Focus in the food can help with that, OR ... AFTER the antibiotics, some PraziPro in the water. Don't mix meds if you aren't sure they won't interact.

Nice fish - hope he recovers. Keep us posted.

Furan-2 is the medicine and it's in the water. This was what Fernando at TFS recommended. Yes I have pulled the carbon out of the filter.

No idea how it happened because it's always been a very docile tank.

Are far as other meds, we are just taking it one day at a time. He seems depressed but was trying to eat pellets so that's a good sign anyways.

Good deal. Fernando won't steer you wrong. ;)

Could have been something nipped him or he scraped himself on something and infection happened. Just like with people, sometimes a cut or scrape gets infected. Most times they heal on their own. It's good that he's eating, that IS a good sign.
