I got this hammer from a member and it wasn't open fully when i bought it. I was told that it was sensitive to a water change and that's the reason it wasn't open. I brought it home and acclimated it slowly. Well it never opened up. Now it has lost several heads. Should I remove it from my tank? Could it be contributing to bad water quality? My other euphyllia are doing fine. All other tank mates are doing fine. Any advice would be appreciated.

My hammer seems to respond instantly to light and flow. Might try playing with location.

imo, it was prob not doing well in his tank, I would cut off the heads that are dying, and dip the heads that are doing fine. i've never heard of corals dieing because of standard maintenance of improved water quality, now if that person was not doing water changes frequently and then once every month or two they did a massive water change i can see it bc the params are changing so much... my .02

I have it on the sandbed where their is less but decent flow. I have tried it different places in the tank and it still seems to not do well.

That's what I was thinking. If my other euphyllia were doing bad then I would assume that it was something wrong with my tank or water parameters but all are fine and thriving. This hammer has not done well since I got it. If it was closed up do to a water change...one would assume that it would open back up. No such luck.

If I feed mine it will open right up. Squirt some mysis on the heads see if it will eat.
