So I bought a really really small blue regal tang. And he looked fine while in the store but when I got him home and put into the tank I noticed that he had a rather large white spot on his right fin. I thought it was a little bit of ich. So I treaded and have been treating for 2 days now with metro. I get home today from work and his fin is no longer there It fell off!!! He still swims around everywhere and eats everything that I put in the tank.

What do I do? Is this alright? Has it everhappen to anyone before.

And when I say small I mean a little bigger than a thumb nail.

I would try a quarantine so you can use a few different meds. Small tangs like that are notorious for not doing well especially in shipping. If he is eating your best bet is to keep him full of his veggies and wait for someone else to chime in on exactly what kind of meds to use to heal that fin falling off as metro prob wont help too much on that.

Ok cool He is eating veggie flakes now so I will throw him some extra stuff in there. Thank you.

Tiny regals have a MISERABLE survival rate. I'd never buy one less than 2" or so. I realize that doesn't help you now...

feed feed feed, and then feed him more! be careful with the metro, he is sooooo tiny. just try to keep him eating, I would introduce some mysis or other meaty foods in addition to the flakes.

I saw it at Optimum as well...but Creation also has a few that are just as small.

I got one like that and I fed him about 6 times a day. Put garlic and selcon on his food, that will help his immune system. When I put metro on his food I used Focus also to bind the medication to it. He's over a year old now. Holley

I feed frozen rods reef blend and veggie flakes think this is good enough?

He eats like a pig. And is still very active.

Thanks for everyone's input it really helps.

That should be plenty, just keep him fat. thats your best bet.

I got my regal, it was nickle-quarter sized, back in december. That fish has been through the ringer. Ick. Brook. Pop eye. Bacterial infection on the torso. Lymphocystist. You name it.

How is the fish today? Silver dollar sized, fat and healthy.

Keeping them well fed helps. I(personally) don't like using medications. This is just personal theory, but I think that meds weaken the immune system of a fish, and any creature for that matter. It may take care of the problem temporarily, but if exposed to the problem again, it won't have the same amount of antibodies than if the fish had fought it off on its own. I've noticed that people who go to the doctor a lot and take a bunch of antibiotics get sick a lot more often than people who just "tough it out".

In my theory, I feel that if you provide good water quality, feed appropriately with lots of immune boosting nutrients and vitamins, your fish will be more likely to survive than medicated fish. Many will disagree. What works for me won't always work for you. So on, so forth.
