Currently I have a mag 9.5 on my 75g display 20g sump. I'm starting to run more reactors through a manifold. Now I can upgrade to a mag 12 and be confident I can run it without any problem. But I also have the option of getting a mag 18 for not much more. The only thing I'm afraid of, is if I don't dial it back there will be to much flow. What would you do?

I bought an Eheim Compact+ 5000. Up to 1360 gph, has a built in variable output and is efficient.

We'll see.

Too much flow going through a display is stressful to the fish and livestock. Dialing back a return pump builds up back pressure and can damage the pump.

Not arguing the amount of flow in the tank point however I would disagree on the pump being damaged by dialing it back. Just 30+ years of experience so I could be wrong. :-).

Thanks everyone, I like the idea of having a return back into the sump, I'll probably get the 18. Thanks again everyone!
