Need to change my WC routine so that I can suction the detritus off the bottom of the sump when I pump out the old water. Every pump I've owned has had a grate/hole/whatever on the intake, and hasn't been feasible to put a hose on to vacuum the bottom. I know I've just never noticed any that have them; they have to be out there.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Those stupid hose adapters always fall off on me... reallly looking for one that is fixed.

a worm drive clamp on the hose? I've seen it done at Rostatos
ask him I really dont think u have to have an adapter though clear tubing will slide right over it

Yeah, I thought of that... I don't have an issue with submerging the pump. I just want to be able to direct the intake to where the cleaning needs to happen. IOW, I'll use the pump and intake hose completely underwater.

Glue the output side of an MJ to a 1' to 2' piece 1/2" PVC and put a hose adapter on that. Then take the grate/guard off of the MJ pump and just use the length of PVC to place the MJ where you want it. It will be submerged, easy to maneuver, and cleaning is as easy as running some fresh water through it.

Use a Quietone pump..

it's got an adapter that will let you attach flexible tubing (just use a barbed/male threaded fitting)...

RIO pumps also come with adapters to attach a hose. Also you can get the nozels needed to attach to the rio Pumps at HD.

Ask Tim of Keen Reef about his Eco pumps. I bought one as a b/u pump and for water changes and I am very happy with it. Great price too!

Barry I made a venturi type injector and put it in line with a return pump that pumps the old water out. I then attached a hose and a piece of pipe to it to vacuum my sump

Hey barry, why not install a little Koralia Nano or something in the sump to keep detrius from even settling?

Barry, I use a maxijet and it works great! I just hook up the flex hose to the output and am able to suck up all of the gunk. Never have problems with the hose coming off or anything.

There is a John Guest that fits right over intake/outlet of a MJ - tubing on the other side - all done!
