Hey there..im somewhat new to the reefing side of the aquarium hobby but have dove in with relative success with a biocube29..i bought around 20lbs of live rock off a guy breaking down his tank..little did i know what vermatid snails and aptasia were at the time but i do now..all the live rock is pretty much covered with the vermatid snails and the aptasia is pretty much gone thanks to the peppermint shrimp..ive heard of gluing the ends of their tubes but there are soo many that i would rather just buy dead rock and start over..would doing this kill my tank and would the 25lbs of live sand be sufficient in cycling the dead rock without the need the need to cycle before placing in the tank??
thanks!

Vermatid snails are probably a way of life... had 'em for years. Why do you want to get rid of them?

Aptasias are a different story... kill 'em dead.

Dead rock and live sand will not support livestock until the dead rock became live. As was said, the snails are no big deal. They are filter feeders and help clean the water.

You could always just cure some base Rock in a couple buckets and swap in a few weeks

i do have two clowns, a pajama cardinal, 3 peppermint shrimp, a few snails and maybe 10 small hermits..some xenia's, atlantic brain coral, duncans, a few types of zoas and a montipora cap..so far so good on all the livestock thriving..im guessing i will just do periodic control on the snails with super glue to keep them in check somewhat..

I was also thinking of curing outside the main tank with some live sand to seed and then swap the rock after..but it seems like vermatids are a fact of life..

yea its probably not a good idea to remove your rock with all that livestock. you could try to starve them out. turn off all your pumps when you feed and only put small amounts of food in the tank at a time wait till your fish finish with that little bit then add some more that way none of the vermitids get a chance to get any of the food. i cut back on my feeding and did notice a decline in vermitid population

Thats a good idea..ill have to try that..im in the process of building a stand so i will have time to glue some of the snails and also couple that with feeding like you suggest might just keep them manageable..thanks for the advice..
