You want your calcium to be maintained above 400, 24/7...

Just get calcium and Alk from BRS and add daily.....pretty cheap...

I've sent you a text with my recommendation for the situation.

Edit: Call if you want elaboration.

Charles,
Come over to My house sometime and I will show you a simple method that works for me in my 250 gallon sstem, and inexpensive. I believe you will like it!

I would do water changes to get the CA where It needs to be. The let it run for 24 hours. Checking calcium before and after. Then you will have your daily dose. That is if your salt mix is over 400ppm ca

well i checked the fresh mixed SW and the ca is like 360. did 50g yesterday and now 24hrs later is on the right side

7-27 7-30
1100 mg 1100
10.4 dkh 13.7
330 ca 350
1.025 sg 1.025
8.0 ph 8.0

their website says 430 on the ca. I checked it with 2 kinds of test. the first one was the red sea coral pro test kit it was 360 ish maybe just a touch lower and the api was 380 - 400 ish.

I always have to buffer the ph on fresh mixed sw, me thinks I might have to add the C02 scrubber.

results were the same on the fresh sw mix and tank with both kits.

FWIW- I trust the Seachem, Elos and Salifert kits (as well as Hach=$$$).

Seachem, Salifert and Hach from personal experience, Elos from others' recommendations.

I don't trust any others.

I only have the Salifert PH ATM and it said the same thing as the API. but FWIW i'm not happy with the other either. BRS has a good video on it and it LQQKed simple to use. I will be changing soon.

Hey Gregory,

I'd be curious to see how it would be done, have you start thread, or could you PM me. Almost always interested to see a different way to skin a cat.

Been super busy this past weekend. NOt complaining at all. But 75 hrs just at work then the extra scout stuff. Sometimes just. Not enough time in the week. I'm taking tonight off after I test the water and pick some okra. I'll have to get with you L8er on it.

ok... now what?

my mag is still holding around 1100. I have not added anything for it. ca is still at 350/360ish add some fushion monday and somemore lastnight. but the alk is up a little bit more around 13-14ish but the ph is staying around 8. added buffer again lastnight and will recheck tonight. but can the ph get locked up?

If your mag is that low the corals cannot make efficient use of the calcium and it could be precipitating out. Bet if you get the mag up to 1350 +/- you will find things are easier to maintain.

+1 rich is right magnesium is part of what keeps calcium from bonding with carbonate and precipitating out of solution so if it is low that your calcium will precip out and the levels will drop and stay low once you get the mag to around 1350 than your ca and carbonate should be able to be raised and maintained easily
