I'm currently using two small heaters on my 125 but I need to find a larger heater that will get the job done! What size do I need to get? Wouldn't mind buying a used one. Anyone who has any sugestions please let me know :)

Generally two is better than one. If one sticks on, it will take longer to heat the tank up than if you had one larger one that stuck on. If it sticks off, the other will keep the temp up enough to not cause problems.

What he said. Two smaller heaters are better than one. If one of a properly sized pair of heaters sticks on, it will probably not cause any problems (depending on the time of year) and you will have a better chance of catching it before you have a fish fry... :)

Shoot, I took my heater out of my tank, hasn't been used since ohh, April?

I have mine in the overflow, one 400w for my 90. My 120 will get 2 200w heaters, one in each overflow.

Yea, with these cool nights, some people's tanks could cool off quite a bit overnight.

good ideas you guys. Mine dropped really fast & it worried me. Ansley was kind enough to give me another 200 watt heater so hopefully that will get the job done.

She has 2x200 heaters and they were not able to keep up with the temp drop. Hopefully bumping it up to 600 watts should be sufficient. I know Ansley has around 900 watts or maybe 1000 for our tank and it really cuts it close to being able to stabilize when its cold outside.

When I bought mine the manufacturer recommended an 800w heater for a 120g. I bought one with a controller and threw it in the overflow. It only stays on about three hours a day right now.

3-5 watts per gallon(unless you have your sump in a basement or something then you would want more)

Two heaters are better then one, stay away from glass heaters and the titanium heates with the integrated thermostat.

I would suggest two 200 or 250 watt heaters, cheap ones and spend the money you save on a ranco controller to run them off.

In all of my tanks I have not a single heater. Never been a fan of them really, as I have not found one that didn't fail and either almost destroy my tanks or burn my house down. The key is to try and get your system heat load in ballance. My systems tend to hover in the high 70's during the summer and low 70's in the winter.
