Just picked up a 1 g rimless from LFS that leaks for 10 bucks. It should be a really sweet tank (to replace my 10g nano that leaked...) My thinking is if i clean out the area that leaks and injects calk into it then give a heavy bead (to be covered but by sand) that I should have a sweet little tank. My thinking is 1g of water won't put much pressure on the seals and I think it was just a manufacturing defect. Thoughts?

Another guy was just posting about resealing a tank.

Unless you take the tank totally apart and reseal it, you are only going to be putting a bandaid on the problem. 1g probably doesn't have enough pressure to break through, but it's easier to do it right once, than do it bad and then do it again, the right way, later on.

I read though the other seal thread but felt the volume difference warranted different thoughts and I didn't want to hijack his thread. I realize it's just a bandaid, but if the bandaid is borderline overkill for the physical requirements than I felt more comfortable with it than trusting myself to reseal the whole tank and get better, but if everyone says that I should reseal I'll give it a shot.

I think you should do what feels best for you. After all, it's YOUR tank. The band aid might be just fine.

Agreed, this is the part of the hobby I like the most. Go for it and share some pictures...

its a 1g would not be to hard to just cut all the silicon out and reseal it, hour or less id say.

It did turn out to be a 2.2 gal once I got unlazy and measured it. I ended up just injecting silicon into the defective areas and then ran a heavy bead along the bottom seal. It has been cycling for 2 weeks now! I'm going sandless on this one with just a few rocks. Waiting on light but then I'll post some pics.
