The room inside my stand is 66.5" long and 21.5" deep and 3ft of height from floor to bottom of glass.

I am building a fowl to start with and would like to run a fuge and skimmer for sure in the sump (have considered a scrubber but it seems to be more work). Other basic space needed in the sump will be a return pump (probably a eheim 1262), heaters, temperature, etc.

I will also need some room under there for an ATO or I could put a container in the garage (which is on the other side of this wall) and pipe it in if I need to save space in the sump.

I was originally thinking of getting a 75gal to use as a sump but later thought it might take up too much room inside the stand; what do you think?

Would two smaller tanks plumbed together be a better idea? Maybe one up higher than the other to save more room (build a shelf for one or something)?

Thanks

Oh and for space needs I was leaning towards a sro 3000int for the skimmer size.

You can plumb together tanks for a refugium + sump, or larger refugium. I plan to do the former.

As for size, I like big refugia. This not only gives a place for micro flora & fauna to thrive, but expands system volume which helps with overall stability, I think.

Again, I'm using a 75 under the 120 DT and a 50 under the 40 frag tank, for the refuia with 2 x 20 gal high tanks for sumps (connected). The fuge to sump flow will be cascaded (by differing heights). I'm still looking at the numbers though.

Good luck with your build.

Frankly, the biggest sump you can get is going to be the "best" overall as it adds water volume. The smallest would be whatever will not overflow when your tank cuts off & backflows into the sump. Anything in the middle will work great.

Thoughts on a single large vs 2 smaller plumbed sumps?

That's exactly why I'm using redundant gravity flow (balanced) sumps.

One pipe will have a pump for circulation between sumps, with 2 return pipes being gravity fed between them (3 pipes total).

The two systems are on different sides of the room.

I see you went ahead and got the tank. I figured you would, once you saw it. I believe he was running a 55g sump when he had the tank. Looks like you are going with a 75g. You won't be disappointed. Best of luck, and where is that build thread, Man???

Personally I'd like a single sump vice 2. Less to break & plumb.

Gonna make one when I have something worthwhile to show. Lol
