Whats up guys. I will be picking up a 75 gallon tank and stand Thursday. Pics will be posted. I need help with set up. I want to get the tank drilled and add overflow box. I will need pre made sump or help making my own. I also need help with protein skimmers. I have had a 38 gallon salt tank with HOB filter so now I am ready to dive into this tank. I was thinking of taking tank to Pure Reef to have them drill and guide me along the way, but any help from you guys would be great.

Thanks for the advice. Can someone shed some light on the brand of skimmer and pump I will need. @ Eagle 9252 I will send you an PM. A question on drilling - once I drill I will need to get an over flow box correct. Where can I pick one up or order one.

MAKE IT... it's cheaper. as for the PS Reef Octopus is what I have. the cheapest local price was at Marine Design a couple of months ago.

If you are planning to drill the tank I have an overflow box that I ripped out of a tank. Black 1/4" acrylic, it's super nice and is 21" tall, it just needs trimmed a tad to fit in a normal 75, it was in a Oceanic which is built a bit different so it's maybe a 1/8-1/4" too tall. If you want a picture PM me It is made to go in the back left corner.

You guys are awesome. When it comes to drilling any advantages to drilling in the corner or center or is it personal preference. With all the help I am getting I will definetely be joining the club.

It doesn't matter where you drill just make sure you drill atleast 1-2" off the side. If you are gonna use an overflow box I'd drill near the bottom of the back pane. Then do a 90 into a durso. I bought everything needed to drill a 75 the other day but I had it shipped to the wrong house and now it's on it's way back to california. You can get a 45MM hole saw and two 1" s/s bulkheads off ebay for $21 shipped.

if you are going to do everything yourself. drill for a bean animal setup I ran a modified durso in a HOB OF and it worked but just do it right tobegin with and then no problems. check out my build or Richards.

I second this option. Super quiet and will take up less landscape in your tank. [IMG]http://www.glass-holes.com">www.glass-holes.com has nice overflow boxes for this purpose.

Thanks. You guys have overwhelmed me with the bean animal set up but it looks doable with some help. Well the definitely research as i am in no rush. The tank I am picking up is an Oceanic and from what I have read just the bottom is tempered glass but I will triple check.

Welcome aboard! I'm in Mableton...right down the road from you. I live off of Veteran's Memorial and Cooper Lake Road. There are a couple of other members in this area. I am willing to help out, just give me a shout. You are in good hands. The advice you get on this forum is truly invaluable. Just take you time and don't get overwhelmed. This hobby is a marathon... not a sprint.

Hey Guys I forgot I had two threads going...thats my bad. Well tank has been picked up. Tank has been dry for 7 mths so probably going to reseal this weekend. I have had some great offers on sumps and protein skimmers from members here and will be weighing my options.

Edit: BTW got everything for 250 so I think I came out really good. Seller was a great stand up guy

As long as the seals on the inside look good and the tank has been kept in an climate controlled area you should be fine. Big things to look for would be chunks of silicone missing due to cleaning the tank with razor blades and such.

The only thing I noticed is the the silicone is rolling up on the edges if that makes sense. I bought some vinegar and will be cleaning tank shortly. I also plan on staining or painting the stand. Anyone have any experiences with staining. Also I painted my last tank black but thing blue this time..

Eagle is right. Go with the Bean Animal. Not only are they super quite, it is extremely easy to care for. On top of that, drilling the back of the tank has a better chance of success than the bottom. Third, if by chance you have a leaky bulkhead down the road you only have to drain the tank a little to replace it instead of draining the entire tank.

You can buy the overflow box to go on a Bean Animal style but they are not hard to make. If you look in the link Eagle posted to my build, it is pretty simple. Acrylic doesn't bond to glass well but, since the water level in the overflow box is lower than the level on the outside all the force is pushing it against the glass and you will have no trouble. Fourth, they are dead silent. :-)

If you are a bit nervous about doing it, you are welcome to bring the tank over some weekend and I would be happy to help you drill it and build the overflow box. If you go that route, I will give you a list of things you would need.

Happy Reefing. :-)

If the silicone isn't in great shape I'd suggest resealing it.

HOW TO: Reseal an aquarium - YouTube

This guy makes great videos, more for freshwater than salt but his DIY stuff is awesome. I have a tank sitting on my back porch I need to reseal as well I just haven't gotten around to it. I wish I could give you more advice on that but other than watching that video I have no first hand experience in that area.

Thanks the video helps a lot. seems easy enough. @rdneslon99 thank you so much for the offer which I may have to take you up on it. I was going to buy the overflow box from glass holes but I know that it would not be a bean animal. I am just a little concerned about the visual aspect of have three pipes showing about the tank but I guess the canopy will conceal that.

If it helps, here are three pics of mine. In the first pic, you have to look pretty close to see the overflow box. In the second pic you get a good look at it and in the third pic you can see how the canopy hides it.
