New BTA...on the move

The day of the meeting got a BTA, acclimated him, placed him on a rock, turned off the powerheads and had to leave for work/meeting.

Came home and he moved to the back of my rockwork and is no longer visible. No biggie but i want to at least be able to feed and observe to make sure he is healthy. One of my maroon clown is hosting him though which is cool

Any luring techniques? He is really hard to get to and creviced between several rocks so moving them is out of the quesiton too.

Anyone else have this problem? What did you do?

One of my RBTAs has walked all over the place. At one point and time decided to suction himself onto the glass....UNATTRACTIVE. He is now positioned on a rock towards the top of the tank, but very visible. woohoo

Another RBTA....I've not seen in a LONG time.

I had two GBTAs, they both stayed put for several weeks, then started moving.....haven't seen them in a long while.

Ugghhh, I feel your pain.

Mine moves all over the place! Right now he's been in the same spot for about 2 weeks though. I like the spot so I hope he does too. I'm not counting on it though. I've had it for probably months and he hasn't really stopped moving.

Well, I'd have personally left the powerheads on (secured and made anemone proof of course) so it could have settled into a spot with the regular amount of flow, although flow doesn't seem to have mattered to this particular nem.

It should come out when it's not getting things it needs (food, light).

ok, good - thanks guys - I knew this is normal behaviour i just didnt want him to stay down there for ever!

Anenome proofing the Powerheads? Is panyhose the preferrred method by everyone? I turned one on yesterday but need to turn on teh other, it is about 14" away from him now..

I also dont want him moving in on my other corals reaking havoc..

now my big Maroon clown is lonely - I got them as a pair (one 4", one 2.5" which my neighbor had for 3 years) they were always side by side, never leaving each other. Now the little guy hangs in the nem and the biggun is lonely - should I get another BTA for him?

I've had a green BTA since October or November and it is still crusing to this day. Might say is a spot for a few days but then moves.

any damage to other corals? This guy is about 6" in diameter so he could really do some damage if he wanted to...

Thankfully no. It's sting doesn't seem to harm anything yet. Although 1 of my female anthias that wasn't doing well disappeared so I think the BTA got it. No proof of that though.

Ha - i was afraid my tank raised clown was going to get eaten by him but so far, no casualties. The maroon clown just rolls around in the BTA all day....wish i could see it, i checked with a mirror this AM. Gonna put pantyhose over the PH's tonight when i get home and turn them on. You think if i got the flow going pretty high near him it would spark him to move?

It could. But it could also make him release and then end up some where completely different. Best thing to do is to let it come out on its own.

It may or may not like the flow, but apt to move toward the vibration the powerhead motor creates.

Anemones and un-protected powerheads in the same tank is just asking for trouble. ?Un fortunately, it's happened to us all.

I thought I was smart, once had a BTA that hadn't moved from his rock in months, then a cracked tank caused me to have to move everything to a holding tank with a power head for circulation. That BTA never moved still!............. But it split the next day, and the new clone went straight into the powerhead, polluting the water and killing the original nem that had still never moved from the rock. A true tragic comedy or errors.....

I've got the whole nem powerhead thing worked out now, as only the output of my powerhead is in the display.... The uptake is in a sump area inaccessible from the display. I'll take pics of it someday. It was really a great idea I came up with....

Well, let me see if I can describe...........

I have a sumpless 30g cube, and took a 6"x 24" pvc pipe section, cut it in half long ways, cut it to fit the 20" high tank, drilled a hole big enough for my tunze output nozzle to stick through, cut slits in the top for surface skimming, painted it black, siliconed it into a corner.

That gives me;

Surface skimming in a sumpless system

A place to hide all my equipment (including Tunze skimmer, although it's tight)

a place to run media (by adding a tray made of plastic grid)

A tank that insures COMPLETELY that an anemone will never end up in the vegematic!!!!

I'll post pics when I can find my camera cable, but Russ (tnyga) saw it, and he thought it was pretty cool.....
