Very few clams are naturally found in the sand and are not adapted not comfortable living there. Also, Maximas are often found in shallower waters, getting blasted with light. The more light, the better.

I have him on a little piece of shelf rock, unfortunately I cannot move him to a higher position, but I will keep an eye out for any behavior change

Btw, I noticed salt residue on seat/door so somebody must have sat in puddle of saltwater.
