New Cone Skimmer

Just received my new toy from Fedex today.....It's Super Reef Octopus XP5000 EXT Cone Skimmer. Broke down and decided to go with the newest technology out on the market. I'm presently running a Euro Reef RC250 recirculating skimmer and it was time to try something new.

This thing is a monster and from all the reviews I've read, this skimmers performance is suppose to be outstanding. I would have preferred a Bubble King 300, but given the cost, I decided to settle for a skimmer that's less expensive.

Just curious if we have any ARC members running any of the Reef Octopus large cone skimmers?

I'd like to hear what you think....

sweet! i will be getting a sro3000int prob.. everyone keeps saying the 5000 is too big for my 180g.. what size is your tank?

The new one in the works will be over 300 gallons...for a 180 I'd go with the 3000. I think the max bio load on the 3000 is 200 or 250 gallons. It's a smaller footprint but you get the same performance. Make sure you get the NEW Bubble Blaster pump. The new pump has a few improvements that enhances the performance.

Yup,that skimmer has your name all over it!! You need to come over when it's hooked up and see your hard earned money at work.

I'm running the 3000int in my sump and now that I've figured out how to use it (needed to clean the neck badly) its working fine.

I know that Jorge @ Pure Reef is running the same skimmer on his reef display currently. Spoke to him a while ago and he loves his. Give him a call if you have any questions, I'm sure he'd be glad to assist.

I'm actually considering a SRO XP 3000INT for my new 185gal to replace an existing KZ Revolution Small. I hate the dang pump that this uses, restarts are a PITA.
