I recently went to Top Tails pet center in Towne Lake and the guy said a Tang would help with my algae problem but wound't be a complete fix. Do Tangs get along with other fish? Would it be good for my tank.

Depends on what size tank you have.Yellow tangs get along with most fish.Do you check you phospate and nitrate levels?

Tangs get along with most fish but we need a little more detail on your set up before we can say that it would be good for your tank. Tangs need a fairly large tank as they need a lot of room to swim. The tang definately will help with your algae problem but also as he said is not a complete fix. You could try adding a sally lightfoot crab or some emerald crabs and some turbo snails to help also.

The real catch is eliminating the source of the algae outbreak. It could be silicates, nitrates, or a lot of other factors. When you let us know some of the details of your tank could you also post a few of the water parameters?

I apologize if I am going to fast or over your head. Just want to help.

My tank is a 65 all glass i do matience but the algae just stays will have water levels in soon.

Ammonia .50(mg/L)
Nitrite .25(mg/L)
Nitrate 160(mg/L)
pH 7.4

(ppm) is equivalent to (mg/L)

Out of curiosity, is this a pretty new tank? Those levels make it seem like it is still cycling. If this is the case, do not add a fish, especially not a tang. Wait until ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, and nitrate < 20. This means your tank has established enough biological filtration to handle fish. The reason for your algae bloom is the high level of organic material right now. This will eventually go down and your clean up crew will eventually catch up. Also, I would try to get that pH up soon. Do you use pH buffer at all? It should be at minimum above 8 and ideally around 8.3.

Ya algae is living in your tank because of those test numbers... How long has your tank been set up because if it has been longer then a month there might be something wrong here that you need to correct!

As george said, books are your friend and the one that he recommended is one of the best bang for your buck!

Madison's went out of business and it is located behine Longhorn's in the Publix shopping center and i have had the tank for a year now and i do regular matience.
