Hello I'm new to this addiction and need to know if I already have my tank cycled and buy more LR from someone on this site from inside there tank and transport it in saltwater to my tank will it still cycle again and kill what I already have or will it be O.K?
Thanks for you help.

There won't be a cycle if the live rock is actually *live* (and coming from another tank, it sounds like it would be). Add it to your tank like you would any other livestock. You might have a small bit of die-off (algae, pods and other micro-lifeforms), so watch your water parameters after you add the new rock and do a waterchange if you notice an amonia spike.

I'd handle the rock carefully and watch for any hitchhikers that you might not want in your system (crabs, etc.) and it's a good idea to wear gloves when handling unknown LR in case of bristleworms.

you should also take the rock and agitate it by hand in fresh ro/di water prior to placing in your tank. this will rid it of unwanted hitch hikers. you should be fine placing this in the tank

just mainly the hitchhikers; I'd do a 30% water change in about 48 hours. that way any die off should have occurred and you should be OK. Like Linda said, test your water often-and I wouldn't add anything for a couple weeks just to let everythingn settle down. that's just my opinion if it were my tank.

It depends greatly as to where, and how, you get your live rock. How much live rock you are going to add, % wise. What kind of filter your have...

Many variables so give us more details to advise you correctly. ive seen people try to add 40 lbs of Fresh LR to a 60 gallon tank and kill all there live stock. When in doubt I suggest you go slowly.

Thanks for the info.
I actually went today and bought 100# from mitchelliii that is tearing down his tank.Igot it out of his tank put it in tubs submergered with saltwater and brought it home ,dipped it and then put it in my tank.I did a water test before I put it in and everything was fine except my PH was a little low.I'll test again in the morning but hopefully it won't spike much with the way we moved it?I'll post picture on new members Q & A thread.
