New Member (I need some opinions)

purigen is basically like an ultimate filtration type media..

you can probably google it and get a quick "sum up" of what it is supposed to do.

I am just now starting to use it so i dont know a whole lot about it

Purigen is a resin that remove organics and other waste. Carbon bonds to impurities in the water. You could run GFO but I would not suggest it since it is hard to use and not needed.

For the Carbon, get a media bag, fill it up, rinse it under tap water to remove the dust and throw it in the canister filter.

Ad that was a "no" it is imposable to overdose purigen. And purigen is reusable, which most people do not realize.

do yourself a favor and get rid of the damsels. They are terrors!!

it becomes a nitrate factory, just like bio balls in sumps. In short, they're bad, um okay.

I just got the damsels to help cycle the tank, mine arent really that bad... I would figure that them and the mandarin wouldn't be too swell of a match but so far everything is ok. With that said, I still dont like the lil guys that much and can get half store credit for them and would much rather have something else in my tank, any suggestions on how to get them out?

How will I know when the Mandarin will start to starve,or get sick? That lil bad boy is everywhere in the tank always picking at the rocks and seems happy as can be. At my LFS I watched it eat like smashed up flake food and thats what I have been giving it.

Well he does spit it out at times but gobbles it right back up for whatever reason. I have watched him feed on numerous occasions and I crumble up around a half dollar flake so that its very small for it's mouth and I normally do that twice a day. Would the bottle of pods that are on a couple of sites be a good substitute for the flake and ensure his health?

I am kind of worried now, I had no idea that they consumed so much.Well I did, but the LFS told me that it would be fine off of the flakes and at the time I figured they knew much more than me and went with their word.

It seems happy and is always cruising with my tang around the tank and doesn't seem like he is being deprived of food. Are there any warning signs that I could look for? I have seen where if they are breathing or sucking in heavily that its bad but dont really know much more.
