My name is Dan and I'm an experienced FW fish keeper that is about to take the plunge into SW. I have a deal on a 75 gallon tank scheduled for this weekend and I've been thinking a LOT about trying my hand at salt water. I see plenty of threads to read here, so let me get to reading!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions regarding setting up this 75 gallon tank.

advice as a fellow new SW (2 months in) hobbyist. buy a QT tank at the beginning of your build. and purchase the fish you want at or near the start of your tank cycle. why? by time your tank cycles. you will be ready to introduce those fish without waiting another month or two. Use Premixed (stable) LFS water for a month. possibly 1-2 water changes a week because your QT wont be cycled. treat all fish of disease if any appear. NEVER INTRODUCE LFS FISH STRAIGHT INTO YOUR NEW TANK!

welcome!
DO NOT BUY A SEA CLONE :)

it would be better to start your cycle while you look for a used skimmer that works.

:)

dont buy the sea clone.. save up for a skimmer that works :) plenty of used ones floating around
OR
go ahead and put the money toward an RODI unit. you'll eventually get one anyway and it will save you head aches if you put good water in in the first place

The Sea Clone product is off the list - thanks so much for the "heads up" everyone!
