Seems like a silly question, but does it matter which end is which on a DE bulb? The instructions from Phoenix are talking about the "small extruded portion of the outer glass should be uppermost".:confused2:

It doesn't matter which end is which but what they're talking about is the "nipple" that should be in the middle of the bulb. That should point upward when installed.

I don't see how it could go any other way though. Am I missing something?

I haven't quite figured out if that advice is true or just an old wives tale about the glass nipple orientation? People say the same thing about single ended halide bulbs that are installed horizontally as well. Standard reply was that you needed to have the nipple pointing between 10 and 2 on the clock face to get proper rendition out of SE bulbs.

I stopped worrying about it a long time ago, at least in regards to SE bulbs, 'cause I never really saw any rendition differences no matter how it was oriented.

That's what I'm thinking. But I can't see why they would include it in the instructions. I guess it's instructions for ALL their bulbs?
