The problem is we actually shell out for this crap, why do you think their customer service will replace stuff for free all the time, because you paid for 6 of them when you bought one.

If you think Vortech pumps are crap, then I have to assume you've never used one.
Their customer service replaces defective pumps for free because Ecotech is an ideal company. They understand issues come up and more importantly they understand they're in a tiny market and that there's no room for error with regards to customer service/feedback.
Lastly, we're in a free market. I imagine the folks at Vortech set their price points at the optimum level for number of pumps produced vs. income.

Why all the hate? If it's not worth it to you don't buy it. I'm sure Ecotech will set the adjust/set the price wherever they need to to sell a desired quantity at determined profit to make them the most $$$. Market equilibrium. It not worth $700 to me, but if I had a tank that had 1" glass than it might be. Heck if I had ans maintained a tank with 1" glass $700 would be a smaller portion of my disposable income for this 'hobby'.
Why does no one slam bubbleking? All their skimmers are is plastic and they start at the same price, all it is is plastic and a pump, and only for a 50-135G tank!?!?!?
