New NUVO 30L

Sorry for late reply....I think I it’s enough but it does give off heat and it’s kinda bulky.
No worries! I've had the tank up for about two months now and I'm enjoying it. I ended up buying the Tunze skimmer and it's great! AI primes for lighting, and I just filter with some carbon and filter floss stuffed into the chamber, and use some ceramic cubs for additional filtration. The tank is happy and I've got quite a variet of SPS, LPS, and softies (:

Does anyone know if the Tunze 9004 skimmer only fits in the filter sock chamber? I was wanting to put a skimmer in the next chamber over. Trying to decide between Tunze and new IM Nuvoskim.

Ditto, I turned mine sideways and put it in the filter sock chamber. I've removed the socks altogether in mine

The right side chambers are both designated for refugium. I have always ran big refugium on my tanks, so I like the idea of doing the same with this one. I also like having the fuge in the original filtersock chamber because it's on the side of the tank where I can cut out a rectangular viewing area to better monitor the pods and chaeto growth. It's a cool thing to see at night when display lights are off. The IM Nuvoskim would fit my arrangement since I think it would fit in one of the middle chambers, but then I realized another issue may arise where the skimmer will be in the way of my Radion RMS Mount. Seeing as though there's no perfect solution, I might downsize the refugium to just the middle chamber to open space for the tunze 9004 instead of taking the chance on the IM Nuvoskim. I don't think the nuvoskim does surface skimming. If you feel surface skimming is much better than skimming from under the water line, I might have to give it some serious consideration.

Oh gotcha man! I would love a fuge on my 30l, but I don't see the purpose since I do regular water changes and my nitrates stay at 0. Perhaps you could do an over the back fuge in the future. I've seen people make their own and it looks pretty effortless.

But I feel you. I wouldn't fosake the Tunze 9004. Comline skimmers are so good. This one in particular worked wonderfully right out of the box for me. Every single day It collects about a quarter of the container with skimate. The Tunze is designed to skim from the surface but also the intake is long enough so that you get plenty of water ran through, so it skims both from the column and the surface effectively... you get the best of both worlds. I'm loving it

None from mine. I have it in the rightmost chamber. By the time the water flows past my carbon and is re pumped, I get no bubbles. I see mixed reviews as well. It's like you either strike gold with the Tunze or you hate it, but generally their comline skimmers are highly regarded

Are you running a carbon reactor after the tunze or did you find a place to put a pad? With my luck, I'm already expecting micro bubbles ;)

Haha no reactor! I legit just have a bag of carbon wedged into the bottom of the chamber where the water flows between the two chambers. There is probably a more practical, tidier way... but that's how I did it!

For the record, I went with the IM Nuvoskim medium size, and it's a workhorse. Large cup, nice skimmate, no microbubbles, and even looks sleek.

I've been using the Tunze 9004. Only complaint is its size. I had to put it in one of the intake chambers and It skims a ton, but I can't help but wonder if I'd just be better off with filter floss in both chambers instead with more routine water changes.

Can you fit the Tunze in the return chamber to free up the side chamber? (Might require rework of the split tubing coming from return pump). If the tunze is pulling good skimmate it's probably just as effective(or more) than filter floss. As long as you have some mechanical in the other chamber, I think you're probably fine.

I run a Tunze 9001 and a filter sock on my outer chambers on my Nuvo 40g. I placed some chaeto in my middle two chambers.

It pulls hella skinmate but I do a weekly 30% water change which I feel outperforms the skimmer. I change filter floss every 3 days, and when I was running floss in both outer chambers I had just as good of results. Might end up removing the tunze and selling that bad boy. 10/10 great skimmer though

I do about the same % with a water change but I do it about every 1 1/2 weeks to two weeks.
