I have been curing the pukani for 2 months. Should I start to add water from my dt now? what kind of tests do I need to do to check if it is ready to be added to dt? Thanks, Bubba

I'm sure the poster above meant "ammonia"

Was it uncured liverock when you got it?

Purchased it from BRS and they indicated that it NEEDED to be cured. It has been two months and there isn't any objectionable smell. I have kept it in the dark with two power heads running at 77 degrees. Looks the same as when I started. Bubba

Should be fine, but take a water sample to a LFS to test for Nitrite.

Should be fine though

i did the same thing (same rock same length of time). if its fully cured (and it should be) and this is a new tank i would just add the rock and fill the tank with water. let that run for a few days and test. everything should be good.

well established tank 5 years.......getting rid of GSP covered rocks and adding new pukani. Thanks, Bubba

Thanks for the info....it is not too late....rocks still on the screened porch curing. Also, thanks for the offer of the Seaklear. I am in Valdosta and will pick up some at the local pool store. Do I just add it to the curing bin now? When would you suggest that I start to do testing. I am in no hurry, would rather get all the mess done outside than run the risk of doing any harm to my fish or coral. Thanks again, Bubba

hmmm, I did about 50-75 lbs of pukani last year about this time. No noticeable phosphate issue until recently. I dont think mine did this however Ill read the RC thread anyway. I am in the process of switching out my pukani for marco anyway....talk about timing.

I currently have about 15-20 lbs of Pukani curing in a 10 gallon aquarium. I will test for phosphates to see if this is a theory or merely speculation. I am one of those that has to see it for himself.

At first, I would start by putting the rocks in a bin with RO/DI water for a couple days at the least. Test phosphates, if there are phosphates, that means it's leaching. Then you can dose the Seaklear. 5ml everyday for a week maybe. I'm just estimating here. You can't really overdose on it. After you've dosed. Test the rock for phosphates again in RO water. And you keep going on from there. You can use SW too. Some people say it's better. I don't think it really matters though. Hope that helped a little bit. You can get more detailed instructions from the link I posted.

Interesting. You might've been one of the lucky ones that didn't have a leaching batch or whatever. There's more details on that too in the thread. It's a super long read, have fun

Of course. I am that person too, and sure enough, they leached. Make sure you wait a couple days before you test so it can actually have a chance to leach.
