Just working on starting my tank and am very excited. I have sand + rock, the rock was already turning purple when i introduced it and now it is capping over with white. Did I do something wrong? I'm sure this has been addressed but cannot find the link. I also found yesterday a centipede looking fella on my rock. I swear he saw me looking at him and retracted into the rock where I couldn't see him anymore. He was sort of greyish and was wondering what he could be and if I need to try to get him out of there (good luck to me finding him again.)

Salinity is good and ph looks maybe a little low. I'm taking in a sample to local aquarium tomorrow. I'm trying to go as slow as I need to. I'm on week 2 or three? Trying to learn as I go and don't want to kill anything :)

wow, this morning i checked it and it was .021 and now it is only .018. I must of had a bad reading. I'm going to go check this out again. the ph is either 7.8 or 8.0. i have one of those dip testers and it's hard for me to tell. i'm going to go add salt now.

Oh, and the centipede looking thing is a bristleworm. He won't hurt anything, in fact it is good to have them for "cleanup" reasons. However, if you touch them they will irritate skin and many people remove them because they are unattractive. As you said, though, good luck catching him.

cool. i'll leave the little guy then. it just didn't look like anything on the Hitchhikers guide. I'll take water in tomorrow and get it read. they told the me tests we crap but i hadn't had it tested yet and just figured since i already had them i'd check anyway. I filtered the water with the stores' filter and added salt.

Since your in the Woodstock area, I would go to Creation Reef. They are top notch and have beautiful setups. Between Matt and Amanda, they can answer anything you need to know. BTW..they are a sponser.

Or go another 10 miles and visit Jenn's store in Canton, "Imagine Reef" also a sponsor.
