I recently puchased a 180 gallon tank. and with a sump and a 55 gallon fuge I will have a total tank volume of around 250-300 gallons. I need a new skimmer. I currently have a reef octo that has been good on my 55 gallon. If i am going to spend the money on a skimmer I want it to be able to handle any future upgrades. I plan on going to a 300 display eventually and would like the skimmer i by to be able to handle the increase in volume. So I was looking at the

has anyone had experence with these skimmers? Or any other recommendations?

I'm moving this to Reef Discussion. You should get more responses there.

Ironically, the only negative review I saw regarding this skimmer referenced the COLOR as being their least liked aspect.

Skimmer performance is subjective at best, but this would be a good solid choice.

If you make it up the ATL area again, PureReef has this exact skimmer in their new reef setup on the left as you walk in the front of the store.

It is massive. I had this same skimmer on order, but then decided to install a larger sump, which ate up the external space I had allocated for it, so I ended up with an internal instead.

The bubble blaster pumps are supposed to be good and are energy efficient.

Another point in internal vs external skimmers is that you will need a feed pump of some type for any external, unless you feed directly from your tank overflow. That is another cost and electricity factor to consider.

You want to use this on future tanks... so I assume you want something nice. Is this the price range you're looking in ? Or can you go higher?

Just curious.

I was looking at a reeflo orca pro 2 also. That skimmer is at the extreme end of my budget.

I have the XP 200S External on my 120g. Great skimmer! As soon as a fish poops it generates poopy foam.

I would assume the current Orca would not be metric but standard since MRC makes it.

Correct. They are standard. yet another reason to not buy the chinese or European skimmers!!

How much do you think the discount would be?

I sounds like this skimmer would be a good one that would last a while.

I have the internal version of the first skimmer you posted and it is really good. Easy setup and cleaning.

The MRC you posted about is really good and nice since they are local. And good people to deal with.

Usually 10%, but you need to call and ask them. But, it would CERTAINLY be worth the $30 membership. Not even counting everything else you get.
