Hi everyone it’s great to be apart of a group that I can learn from every day. So first ? I picked up a frag this weekend and I didn’t notice it had some (dead tissue) will this recover, is it dead , or was it just under another frag? Pics are two days apart. Also should it have polyps?

Montipora looks white like that on the edges, and it's not necessarily dead, but rather it is growing. As long as it still has color, you're good. Most SPS lose their color and turn white when they begin dying. Keep an eye on it, but red monti is really hard to kill.

And no, no visible polyps on red montipora.

It can have polyps but they aren't really the kind that pop out at you is what I mean. So by not seeing polyps here, it's no issue.

I want to welcome you to ARC. Im guessing that you are new to the hobby. If so welcome to the journey.

The frag looks good.

Continue to ask any and all questions. We have a very knowledgeable and friendly group here. We are all here to help anyone out.

I was more worried about the pie shaped piece of tissue missing. When I got it home there was like brown hinging off when I dipped it I got most of it off

It'll probably be just fine. I've had pieces of plating monti get stung, covered or otherwise damaged that have recovered just fine. It's definitely been growing and I wouldn't worry too much about the single dead spot as long as it doesn't seem to spread. If it does, you can always cut the dead part back to good tissue and go from there.

Gotcha sorry, hard to see from the pic. Looks good overall though man, pretty red color.

Welcome to ARC by the way!
