Hi my husband and I recently got into saltwater aquariums. We just bought a 125 gallon tank and have a Fluval FX4 filter. Anyone have any tips for the rest of the setup? This will be a fish only tank. Thank you.

Hey welcome to ARC and to the hobby. What do you have as far as wave makers/power heads? I'm not sure if you even need those since you are going fish only. May I ask why fish only?

Currently we just have the tank and filter and nothing else, we also have a 60 gallon tank that we want to do corals in one day once we learn how everything works but we chose the big tank for fish only so we could get some of the bigger fish or non reef safe fish

My suggestion would be to watch a few videos on YouTube about the nitrogen cycle. Powerheads would be a good choice as fish like to swim in currents like the ocean and it will help keep poop suspended in the washed column so the filter can pick it up. Lights aren't near as importation with fish only. Do you have any rock yet? Sand?

Running a fish only setup will be a good chance to learn about water chemistry and tank husbandry.

+1 canisters work but you might need multiple for a tank that large. And even then like others have said, they can trap nitrates unless you clean them out very often.
