I'm Daniel. I've been big in FW since 2004. I took a few years off after divorce and a couple of moves. I'm got re-married last year, bought a new house in June. In December I set up a 2g tank with a couple of couple of guppies. My wife sat with her chin on the counter for 30 minutes after I put the fish in... and it was on....

Now I have a 210 7x2x2 FW. April the 6th I snorkeled in Isla Roatan Honduras for the first time. It was amazing. 2 weeks ago I got a Fluval Spec V for free... I decided to put it on my desk at work. I had thought about using it as a grow out for my 210 but being in my office at work, daily 50% water changes, even though it's only 2.5g isn't that feasible... and I would have it over stocked... so I decided to try SW. I've known Greg at Optimum since back in the day, so I felt pretty comfortable letting him guide me. The tank has sand, rock, 6 small snails, 6 hermit crabs, 1 turbo snail, 2 bigger crabs and a peppermint shrimp, waiting on a pair of clowns in the next couple of days.

Looking to get a 75g+ reef for my bedroom now.

I'm also looking for a used or cheap light to upgrade the Spec V so I can put some coral in it. It's the original version with the lower powered LED.

210 will be upgraded to a 6x3 or so next year. Stock - three osteoglossum bichirossum 18", 14" and 8", two cichla melanaie (xingu) 6", cichla kelberi 10", two semaprochilodus latcieps 5", megalodoras uranoscopus 6", two pterodoras granulosis 4" and 10".

Peacock bass are really what got me in to the hobby. I was born in Venezuela and my dad spent half of his life there. I moved to GA when I was 9 months old. I grew up fishing with my dad. One Saturday morning we were watching TNN fishing as usual, and an episode came on of peacock bass fishing in Venezuela. It was amazing. When I was 20 walking through Petland in Kennesaw I saw a peacock bass and then I was hooked. I still plan to go to the Amazon to fish, but I really want to go to Venezuela and the country has been crap for the last 5-10 years. I did spend a couple of hours fishing alone in the canals in Miami for them on a business trip... I saw several but didn't catch any.

This is my old 190g and 480g. They had various fish in them over those years. I was very proud of that 480g. Two bio towers 1x1x5' with 60g of bio balls and a total of 8 feet of downward trickle. Constant water changer, 7200gph through the sump.

Welcome to our community. That's a great looking FW tank! Before you know it you'll be hooked on coral.

I have no doubt!

I know I want a big for a few reasons. I hear it's easier to manage the water for a reef and I know I'll end up wanting something bigger.. and I have no partiality as far as SW fish go... so I can take the kids to the store and let them pick some fish out... They can't do that with my FW preds lol.

I prefer 1911s. I carry a Sig Nightmare Carry. It's like a Glock, but for men :) :) :)

Welcome to the club! This place is full of great information and amazing people! Enjoy everything this place has to offer and best of luck with the new venture into the salt world, you'll never go back to fresh!

As you pick fish keep in mind where you want your tank to go. Like FW certain fish won't play nice together, but with a reef you also have to consider how the fish will act towards the types of corals you want to keep. Just looking ahead.

Yeah, I know. I had been planning on counting on Greg to help me with that. now I have y'all. I guess it depends on the tank and setup I end up buying. How much is already established. I don't really want to start with anything that's really hard to keep. I don't want a super high tech tank either. The work is part of the hobby.

Fish wise - I'd really like Caribbean fish. Is the flame angel Caribbean? I feel like I saw something like that in Honduras.

Like the others have said, Welcome back to the salty side.

I gotta say when you jump back into something, it looks like you do it with both feet ;-)

Have fun

Just one 210g isn't that much for me. When I had that 190g and 480g I also had a 125g, 90g, 75g, 55g, two 30g and a couple other smaller tanks. I'm NOT doing all that again. I like the idea of my 210 and then whatever I eventually upgrade that to and one decent sized reef, plus the 5g at work. Maybe when I upgrade the 210 to their monster tank I'll make the 210 in to a reef.

I'm interested in this 60g. My worry is that it'll end up being too small. I guess I could have 5 or 6 fish in a 60g reef? I want a flame angel, one of my daughters wants a blue tang. I guess if I upgrade the 210 in a year or so I can just use that and get rid of the 60g at that point if it's too small.
