New to Salt Water Taking all Advice :)

Since it is a sump I would guess it not being totally full and the equipment, or mine any way doesn't weigh too much. Just stressing that regardless of the wheels, caters, tat's a lot of weight to pull out. And your statement on the seems is something elsr to account for. Good idea but needs some engineering to be safe as you said. Might be more trouble than it's worth.

Verry true, forgot that salt is a little heavier. And I'm not super concerned about the weight of it being hard to pull out, I'm a decent sized guy and the casters I have that I'm planning on using came off an old tool box that was close to 800lbs and roled extremely easy. And I'm planning on using 2" steel angle iron and my new stick welder for the frame.. Over kill? Maybe.. But I've got a bunch of it laying arround and I need the practice :p.

Buttttt if you guys really think that moving the tank will mess with the seams I might just abort this hole idea.

If all you have researched point to it working by all means try it! If there is 1% doubt though I would scrap it.. I know nothing about what you arer trying to employ.. Just giving my thoughts.. :)
Do you perhaps have a quick draw up of the ideas you have? I'm more of a visual kinda person.. LOL
Either direction you take I'm eager to see the progress!

well jay looks like its gonna be another neighborhood project haha should be fun my friend.

I would not use bagged live sand, instead use a good aragonite base sand and seed a little live sand from several other established systems. Your lights should be fine fine for the time being, IMO you should not be adding any coral that would require much more light than you have until your system is stable and SEVERAL months old.

what is the down side of useing bagged live sand? and i had actually planned on finding someone who is parting out a hole tank and get there already established rock and sand and just add what ever i amount of sand that i would need after that. figgured it would cycle alot faster.

as far as lights and coral go you are verry right. i haddend planned onadding any coral until i actualy had a few cheap fish in for a few months and everything is going well. and then i would add my new lights and all. im just trying to figgure out what lights i want to get in the long run.

so i may be getting the skimmer set up for a really good deal; http://www.aqua-medic.com/turboflotor_5000_shorty.shtml">http://www.aqua-medic.com/turboflotor_5000_shorty.shtml</a>

yes its way over kill, but i can mount it externaly from the sump and it will fit perfectly in one of the side cabnets i have. (ill post some pics in a sec)

pluss i figgure if i ever end up setting up a massive set up later down the road ill already have a bigger skimmer

heres my tank and stand when i first got it together..

im pretty sure that skimmer will fit just right in one of those stands. and then i wouldnt have to worry about a skimmer sticking out of the sump and making it to tall to fit under the tank.

kk may stop by today if not im free all 2marrow son

One more thing about moving the sump with water in it is that the water is likely to have some motion to it because of being moved, which may result in a wet floor. Most of us have had water on the floor more than we would like for a variety of reasons, so you may want to consider that also when planning on putting the sump on casters. Just my two cents.

true but like i said i dont have carpet so that isnt a big deal at all. and trust me having a 120 and 55 in a 13ft/13ft room where i do weekly water changes.. ive had my share of water on the floor :P

Bagged live sand contains lab cultured bacterias that are fed a carbon source that you are not likely to replicate. In several months or possibly quicker you most likely see an additional spike when it begins to die off. It also may be a very small spike that you never even notice. When this does take place naturally occuring bacterias will begin to take hold:D

In all reality it is just a big waste of money.

Oh yeah nice spider:thumbs:

Ok I'll just have to look at all of my options when I start buying stuff for the start up.

And thx, he actually just locked up to my reduced patterned female :)

jayjay

an, that book i mentioned above is really getting good.
im glad i have it before i start setting up my 120.

questions are answered in there. its a great read.

Alright I might have to pick that up.

So anyone have any input on that skimmer I posted a link to?

Sounds like you are on the right track. I have no personal experience with the skimmer but it sounds good. Just about all right ups for products make them sound like the cure all for evrthing though. I would try to find some reviews from people who actually use it. Even the wright ups for junk skimmers sound good. Anyway, its nice to here that you are taking your time and researching before just doing and then trying to make something work. I've been doing this salt water thing on and off for about 35 years and still learn new things all the time, but then I try some strange things sometimes and sometimes they work and other times I have to undo my experiments. Good luck and if we can be of any more help, just ask.
