New to the area. Need advise.

And Gary here in turn gave me a couple of frags for free which are doing quite well in 65 gallon!!

well if you want any more corals free im north of you in cartersville. and got a couple i have fragged i can give you. i dont have another container coming in till 5 tomorow morning so i got some time left till i gotta go to bed

Although I'm new to the area I had my set up in Fl for many years before selling it all off when I moved here in Dec. The local club that I had belonged to even had a couple of frag swaps in Boynton Beach, Fl where some locals from Atlanta even showed up. I think the biggest difference is not being able to use NSW and getting used to what ever is in the local water as far as treatments and such. I did visit up here for Magna in 2008 but didn't realize I would eventually move up here or I would have paid more attention to the locals. With my old set up I was lucky to be able to plumb through into the garage and all my equipment was out there with a chiller. I don't have a floor plan that will allow me to be that creative so I'll need to be more aware of occasional spills and wood floors instead of ceramic tile. It's just a learning curve that I need to deal with. I'll probably visit some of the LFS to get some ideas. This web site set up looks very similar to that of PBMAS in S Fl. I think PBMAS may have copied the style which is nice because it makes navigating easier for me as I'm already used to it.

man i could go on and on with the deals from this club ive gotten.
doc, lil rob, olds, jenn, rit, keen reef, tony caliente, andyman, cliff,
porpoise, amberjack, budsreef, mojo, man the list goes on and on here.

this is a great forum and folks will take you in like family here.
i would be nowhere in this hobby w/o this forum or the people that make up this community. ive never gotten burned, if anything, when ive bought i sometimes feel like i didnt give enough.

we have a meeting coming up. come join us and see for yourself
what this club and these folks are about.
i bet you leave with a dozen or more new friends and i bet you can only remember 3 names lol.

i can only hope that raisedonnintendo's comment didnt come out the way he intended, because this is the place to be.
theres no scamers here. if one pops up he/she is found out rather quickly and asked to leave.

it wont take you long reading on here to find the truth
in this club. everybody here helps everybody else
if you follow me with that.
as was mentioned above, we have folks come a long way
just to come to meetings and visit our sponsors
shops. if we as a whole werent worth it, they wouldnt
make the journey.

heart felt CR500.
you guys on ARC have been dang good to me
in the almost 1 yr since i joined.
ive not had a issue with anything/anybody.
ive had sponsors up before their morning
coffee dealing with me and my newbie problems.
ive has members lone me equipment and they didnt
know me from adam.
ive had members send me off from their homes
with a high dollar setup on only a promise to pay.
ive been in need and had more PMs
than i care to count with folks willing to help.
i just dont want folks to get the wrong ideas about ARC.
as for $5.00 corals, lol i dont know but 3 ive paid that much for.
most that i have have been given to me lol.
yep from folks off of ARC. my 45 cant hold any more corals.
i have so many i have them on a rack waiting on my to finish
setting up my 120.
heck 500, if you remember, i was GIVEN a 135 gal from a member
just because i joined the club with a paid membership.
this is just one mans story (mine) about his first yr with ARC.
theres several stories like this to be read on here.
hey 500, ARC speaks for itself bro.

:yuk:

anyway.................lol....................

Welcome!

Not to threadjack, but to add to what Rick said:

I've been given 17 (mostly ORA) SPS frags in exchange for two weeks' tanksitting (which meant stopping ON the way home every third day and feeding).

I've been sold an $870 skimmer (PLUS pump) for $185 (pump included) and given "pay me whenever" terms on top of the price... both of the above from Rob.

I've been given a canopy that I refinished and modified (turned out great) for free from Charlie (dawgdude). He twisted my arm by giving me a frag of ATL red milli when I picked up said FREE canopy.

Rit tossed me freebies both times I've bought corals from him (pre-sponsor).

I've been loaned equipment whenever something of mine went down.

Rob took me on an all-day tour of sponsors when I first joined, just to get me acquainted. One of these trips included "just dropping by" ATHENS to let me pick up something from an ARC member... another ended up at William1's house which led to me becoming tattooed... but that's another story!

Heck, that deserves its own... an ARC member gave me a smoking deal on a tatoo... and one for my wife, too. How many reef clubs can do that? :)

Ansley let me work several days for free on his in-wall build. :)
Just kidding, he actually gave me a couple of MaxiJets and some BRS 2 part when I was in need... his statement was, "I don't sell stuff like that... I give it away".

This club goes through its high and low times as far as the membership's morale is concerned, but all things considered it kicks butt.

all is good, however, your post does come across bashing us longer term members.

like I said, all is good! :-)

but like i said it was ok at people n meetings. to odviously refer to the more longer termed member you meet at these events and past sponser like rit that those would b ok. i could b wrong but im pretty sure all that where commenting to that post where the meeting exceptions i had mentioned. and would probably get to meet u n person someday at a public event. if hes coming from out of town and is new here b safe u r on the internet
