New to the Forum!

In think how long the fish or corals are in bags during shipping. I think they'll be fine for a two hour drive. I'm always down to ride to atlanta and would be more then glad to show you around the great sponsors!

That's pretty cool of you! I like the mentoring aspect of anything I do. I have no problem being the noob whilst you show me the ropes.

Ok. After attempting to reseal the baffles, there are still leaks in the same two places I tried to patch up. Very discouraging but I guess I will have to try again. I would try to post a pick but the image is so large on here and trying to decrease the size is extremely annoying. Here is a link to the other forum. Hope that is not frowned upon here!

Sweet, I am working on my masters in biology... I thought about PA school when doing undergrad!

Yea, I think I have a really good chance, application will be in by March and then just waiting. Did you do undergrad at GCSU? Also, you have any affiliation with the aquarium on the biology floor of herty?

I went to Florida State for my first two years and then transferred to and graduated from UGA last year. I will be done with my thesis here in December of this year. And no, I don't have any affiliation with that tank in herty... I wish I did because I have to walk past it fifteen times a day and could make it look so much better

Checked out the local pet store in Macon. The usual store that does mostly dog grooming but has a fish section. The place actually had more fish than I thought they would. Checked out the fish and most seemed vibrant. Few of the fish looked malnourished, a yellow tang they were asking $35 for looked a little on the slim side and had a white growth near its tail. Ich maybe? The store policy is 24 hour returns, that may be common practice. If the fish dies within that time then you have to bring the fish and a sample of the water. If the water checks out then you get store credit. They place their orders on Thurs and they arrive on Fri. So if I were to place an order I would pick it up on Fri. I figure the less time they have with it the better. I won't buy anything from them that they have had for an extended amount of time. Anyone else follow these guidelines when purchasing fish locally?

The LFS in McDonough is Blue Planet. I've only been once (a long drive), which was to pick up a gift from my wife... a Regal Tang for Fathers' Day. This was in the old location.

Tiffany was very nice, livestock looked great and prices were good.

DO NOT GO if you are afraid of dogs! (Or mooses) :)

The white growth was likely its scalpel...did it look like this?

Also, you can ask to buy it right in the bag...so it never touches their system and less stress. And in most cases, I want the fish that has been there the longest. Then you know if it eats or not as well..

Probably.... my embarassing story:
I passed up a BEATUFIL powder brown tang for $22.00. I had never owned a tang at the time.

I saw his scalpel, and not knowing what it was, thought it was injured.

End embarassing story.

That's what it was. What a noob mistake I made.lol It did look on the lean side but that's probably just me being paranoid. And I see your point about wanting the one that has been there the longest. Didn't think of it that way.

Edit:

I live an hour from McDonough so I can check that place out since you're putting in a good word for them. And I'm not afraid of dogs, nor moose for that matter.:lol2::lol2:

Well I checked out the local pet store in Macon and they had a large saltwater section than I thought. I also talked to the guy maintaining the tanks. Apparently he started working there 2 months ago and the saltwater area was full of dead fish and had poor maintenance. Since then it looks like he's had a significant turnaround. The tanks look good and the fish look healthy. I talked to him for over an hour and he seems pretty knowledgeable. They order from Sun Pets in Atlanta on Thurs and the shipment comes Fri morning. Anyone do business with Sun Pets?

Sun pets is wholesale only, unless you know someone... they are the big wholesaler in town now, I have heard mixed reviews about them. You will have to get more information from sponsors about them...
