Hi everyone,

I just picked up my first SW tank (biocube 29 gallon HQI). I have about 30 lbs. of live rock in it so far and am working on getting some moonlighting and a koralia evo 425gph. Not going to be adding any coral for a couple of months. Any advice anyone or ideas for what I might need in addition to the current setup? Thanks and look forward to an exciting start!

P.S. if anyone has the same tank please PM as I'd love to see what people have done!

Sure got several nanos. N several o those r 29g 1 reef others r fish only. If u need n e help feel free to ask me. I would recommend getting two of those nano power heads as 1 does no do much IMO. Two n u get a mini whirl pool going :). What kind oh rock u using? Fiji base?? Did u add sand? Do u have n idea what fish u want?? R u even gonna have fish?

Thanks for the welcome!! I'll look into picking up another nano... I have about 2 inches of sand. CaribSea Dry Aragonite Special Grade Reef Sand I think. Rock... um didn't know there were different kinds of live rock. LOL.. I just picked some up from the local store. Thinking of picking up a couple of clown fish, maybe a goby paired with a pistol shrimp. Since I'm brand new to this I really don't know what else is out there that would fit in my size tank. I picked up The Conscientious Marine Aquarist since everyone recommended reading it and hopefully it'll get me up and running as far as the SW hobby goes. Couple of my friends have bigger tanks and now I'm wondering if I should have gone bigger since now I'm reading that the nanos are harder for beginners.. :(

If u need suggestions on your start up or what to put n there I'm here just pm me. U want to set up diff for diff fish

Quick question... is a chiller needed for a 29G biocube HQI... The temp goes from 77 to 81 or so when the MH is on. Thanks!

i am thinking about getting the oceaniac biocube 29 gal. HQI, how do you like it and is it worth the $$

It's awesome! Once everything in the tank settles the MH makes the whole tank shimmer like a beauty. To have a complete setup with a MH and almost everything else you need for under $500 is a steal in my opinion. The cube was $450 at a local store. You might be able to shave a few bucks off if ordered online but I say support your local store. Oh and the biocube stands is awful flimsy so I didn't get one. I actually picked up a used Solana stand, fixed some of the chips and touched up the paint. The only other thing you might need for the cube is a heater in the winter and a wavemaker. I actually picked up the nano 450gph... anything bigger IMO makes the tank look weird since it's already only a 29G. Summary yes it was worth the money :)

I'll try and post pics up soon with the progress. The tank has only been setup for about 2 weeks now. First water change this weekend.

Oh the first water change. You'll never forget that first taste of saltwater when you over do your syphon. Glad you are in it. Can't wait to see the progress

So true.. I've talked to people that had tanks and asked why I'm so fanatical about it ( I did let John chop a huge hole in a living room wall and take a wall out of a bedroom).. That they didn't see the point.
I told them that what's makes a real reefer was destroying your house, gluing fingers together and drinking dirty saltwater!!

Hi Nimrod, I am new to the hobby too!! I saw the BioCube at local store and it looks amazing with the lighting and everything.

Unfortunately the larger ons was a little out of my budget. So this weekend I picked up a 55G freshwater aquarium and all the peripherals from a colleague. I have the water circulating for a day now, and looking forward to the day I can add some fishes to it!

How long are you going to cycle your cube?

KM,

If you add live rock you really don't have to cycle the tank for that long. The longer the better of course but I actually only cycled mine for a week before adding a few corals and a hardy fish. I wouldn't put a heavy bio load on it if you're not going to cycle it for that long though. Actually my biocube is only a month old and I'm already upgrading to a bigger tank so PM if you want a discounted 1 month old HQI cube with a Solana stand (real wood, not the flimsy particle board oceanic stand :) It's a great setup and I might actually keep it as a second tank if I can't sell it. The addiction has already got me upgrading and it's only been a month!

Haha, I think you are definitely addicted Nimrod! I have the 55G setup running okay, so will stay with that and see how everything goes.

What is going to be your next setup?

60 G SolanaXL 60 w/ the Maxspect 160W LEDs... Does anyone know how to attach pictures... do they have to really small? Thanks!

Wow, I just googled these and seems like a top-of-the-line setup! You should consider setting up a build thread, and keeping us in the loop with how this beauty turns out...

Viel Glück!
