Hi All,

My Name is Manjit and I am new member to this hobby. Contrary to many hobbyists I dove right in a purchased a 220 gallon tank :-). The tank has cycled now and I am really excited to add fish and coral to my tank. I look forward to any advise you all can provide on the first corals and fish. I want to develop my tank to be a reef tank. Thanks

Manjit.

For a tank your size I would def recommend reaching out to some of the club leaders and seeing if you can get them to do a par reading in your tank. That way you have a general idea of what your range is currently at.

Welcome to ARC!

My first tank was a 220 as well. It is easier to manage water parameters but there's still a learning curve maintaining Alk & Cal.

I can't stress enough what civics14 posted about quarantine. You'll want two QT's, one for fish and one for coral. Yes it's more expense up front but it will be money well spent and it will save you much more in livestock costs and headaches down the road.

Thank you All for the advice. Below is what I have in my Tank.

Currently I have only two Radion XR30W Pro Lights
2 Heaters,
1 Chiller
Red Sea RSK 600 Protein Skimmer
Trigger Systems Amethyst 39 Sump

If I could go back and send a brief message to myself, when I was at your stage, it would be: GO VERY SLOWLY. Add fish sparingly and infrequently. Same for corals. Stock up over 18 months. You are in this for the long haul. If you are successful, in a few years you will have a full tank and get kind of bored because you can't buy fish anymore! And I also encourage a QT setup.
