I am a new member and new to the world of reef aquaria. I have learned much from these forums, but wish someone would develop a glossary of abbreviations commonly used for us novices.

A couple questions:

I just purchased an Oceanic Biocube 29 and am more interested in invertebrates than fish. What corals (and other species) would be best for me to concentrate on, given the light limitations of the Biocube?

If I should decide to add more light, is there a way to accomplish this - that is not too complex and won't interfere too much with the attractive appearance of the setup?

Can anyone suggest where to get the best price on the stand for the Biocube 29?

Thanks for your help!

Actually started collecting acronyms on http://atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5473">this thread</a>. This is a partial list, but maybe it'll be helpful.

I'm also collecting terms for a glossary, adding them to a text-file as I come across them in posts. I was using this as my own personal reference, but may present it as a Wiki article, if the Club thinks it's a good idea.

I beleave that zoas, leathers, some lps up top would do fine now after saving enough money up u can also but a 150hqi in and then the world opens up a little brighter....if u have any questions or concerns u can call me 404-975-8916...this is the best way that i have found, someone did this for me when i first started and i guess this is my turn, give me a shout if u need anything or have any questions...on top of that this fourm is a great source of knowledge and also good source of equipment.

I have a 29 Biocube. I increased the light by using a kit from NanoTuners.Com. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, I would recommend one of their kits. They come with easy to follow instructions.

Their are also many mods available for the BioCube, but I have not done anything other than the lighting.

welcome to the ARC. you could put just about everything in there except for SPS and anemones.

Kind thanks to you all for the welcomes and for the wealth of information. I'm still looking for the best price on a Biocube 29 stand.

John

There are some reefers here who are quite handy and might be able to build one or assist you in building one. Or you could check with a cabnet maker/trim carpenter in your area?

I've seen some beautiful DIY stands.

Linda,

Check this out regarding acronyms:

Linda, you should soooooo be the Secretary of the club, just my opinion of your posts in this thread (but I understand time limitations too)

Now on topic. Please John, start out slow!.... Start with your garden variety of softies as your lights are great for them, put your money toward some nice liverock right now. Remember when you upgrade lighting on a small tank like that you might run into heat issues. Personally I'd stick with CF lighting on a tank that size. I've maintained a 30 gallon tank for years, but have ran into a few issues with Metal Halide lighting, and if it wasn't for my beautiful clam, I'd consider going back to CF lighting.

Good Luck and welcome aboard!
