Hi, everyone ^^

My name is Tae and I am new to this club. ^^
I recently purchased 55gal salt water tank on Craigslist. Moved everything to 46 gal bow front tank I purchased from petsMart three years ago... ( I started off from fresh water and finally moved to salt water tank)
I been getting informations from local reef store, and it's time for me to join this club to share but mainly LEARN...

Thank you all~~~~:D:D:D

Edit: Q&A: As I noted above, my tank is currently in pretty bad shape... It was full of green argae. ( I think old owner was using tap water for top-off??? ) all the coral have diminished ( or retract? ). I bought a sump (used) and a separate refugium (used). I done two water changes in a month. Green argae is almost gone and I am waiting for the posphate reactor to remove the rest of green argae. any suggestions???
also, my engineer goby is swimming around the front glass. (he usely is hiding) is this normal??? Thanks ^^

Welcome!

from your vague discription, your Gobi should be fine.....:-)

kewl :)
another questions: I am waiting for the phosphate reactor i purchased on ebay... is it necessary to have if I have refugium with mineral mud (3") with green microargae with heater... Thanks

IMHO, yes...I'd ditch the mineral mud, maybe keep the macro algae....they can tend to become nitrate factories themselves...

Welcome!
You might try going lights out for 2 or 3 days to impede the algae growth if its that bad. Ultimately you will have to find the source of the problem. Tap water top offs as you say...would be a big one!

Thanks guys ^^

I ended up breaking down the tank and restart~~~ The Tank was in pretty bad

Here is picture from Wednesday. See all the Green algae things o.0'

Today I broke it down~~~
Adding Some Marcorocks and new sand soon.
also I went and took the base of cabinet out to give more room.
Two brick will be base for the refugium to level up to sump.
RO (waiting for DI from AWI) will be mounted in the back wall.

I took the sand and rock right out of the tank and put it in.

Thanks to airwaterice.com for DI unit...

Edit: I used 28% Hydrogen peroxide (Industrial grade?) instead of 3% ones from kroger.

I soaked in for about 30 hours or so.... works well I think~~~ it bubbled forever... green stuff is mostly gone not comepetely though~~~
But I dont think I be using these rocks...Kekeke
anyways here are pictures~~~

Make sure to rinse the rock several times in fresh RODI water. Then allow the rock to dry completely. It will then be ready to use again.

Your going to have to change the bulkhead to get that broke pipe out, just replace the bulkhead and install a new pipe. Its more than likley a 1 1/2 inch hole.I just got new bulkheads on ebay for 5.95$ and shipped to my door in 3days.

I have been watching this thread here and there, and I am still confused as to why you broke the whole thing down. it appears as if you did all that because of green algae, but am i missing something?

I wanted to start it all over... I has been fun so far...
Got much to do...

blakejohn;632114 wrote: What I would do for your return line is this, Remove all the return plumbing that the tank has. Get a new bulk head that is threaded internally at both ends. Run the return pipe up through the overflow and over the top of the overflow.

The way it is now (with the return coming out of the overflow near the bottom) if you have a power failure you will siphon 50 gallons back into your sump or, all over your floor rather.

Thank you so much for the help...
what am i suppose to do with the hole?
Should I gt one of these? (picture for JeffMuse's tank building thread.

when you run the return all the way up the overflow, which is def needed like mentioned, why not just glue/silicone a small piece of acrylic or something over that hole in the overflow. glue it to the inside of the overflow and try to hide it as much as possible. also if the overflow is big enough for you to get your hand in there good, a simple glass scraper should be able to get the bulkhead loose from the inside.
