nitrates are going up

i have a biowheel filter on my tank would this be the cause of it going up with me haveing a reef tank now??
they went from 0ppm yesterday to 10-15ppm tonight

Yes, remove the bio wheel part (the part that spins).

i added some corals last friday but nothing really big some gsp and psp and one frag of polps
but havent added fish in 2 months

i am trying to get coraline algae to grow in my tank i have added purple up for about 3 weeks everyday and have one rock that has a little on it to start with but cant get it to grow??? am i doing something wrong

take a knife and scrape the coraline under water.....that will release the spores all over your tank. Throttle back on the purple up. It can have advirse affects on your water chemistry.
