On my way home from purchasing a new torch coral and wrasse we lost power around 5:45pm. Finally got the kids to fall asleep. Now I'm trying to limp the QT and display tank through the night off of power tool batteries. I spoke with the GA Power engineer around 8:40pm. They are still trying to locate the problem. Cherokee got pounded this evening. If anyone in the area has a portable generator I could borrow for the night it would be incredibly appreciated.

I may be a little too far from you but I have a little 1800w inverter generator that is basically brand new. It's due for its break-in oil change but I could get that done while you're on the way. I'm in Snellville right by the LA Fitness. Let me know if that works for you

...yeah we just got the 1pm text in our neighborhood too. That storm was intense.

That's pretty far. However I do appreciate the offer. That's mighty generous.

Yeah the worst part is I'm an electrician. I will be getting a ups or car battery to wire up after this until I can afford a generator. We have only lost it 1 other time since 2019. That only lasted 2-3 hours. Our neighborhood is underground and we live across from the substation so this is kind of shocking its not back on. I guess they are just swamped right now.

What I've done in a pinch is run an extension cord from a car inverter into the house, with the car idling, just to keep essential pumps going

I considered doing that! I ended up almost boiling some water and putting it into nalgenes and floating them. That brought the temp up 2-3 degrees. Power just came back on and has stayed on. I was going through some 5 and 6 amp batteries! Milwaukee claimed 175w continuous load on their battery inverter...that is not true at all. A 150w heater could stay on for 2 seconds. However it was doing OK with a 100w heater. Tomorrow I will have to rearrange the powerheads and clean the wires back up. It is a mess right now and I want to go to bed.

My place flickered half dozen of time right when the storm came thru around 6. And I have backup power so the return was on. The house is connected to external power outlet which I can connect my inverter generator but I didn’t have to go that far.

I went to sleep and woke up and checked my apex and my pH dropped by 0.1 more than usual and temperature also down extra degree as well. Tested the alk at regular time and it was 0.6dkH lower than it was from yesterday. I didn’t know what was the issue. THAN, I sow my apex display showing blank. Checking the sump, I realize my skimmer was off and now it’s BROKEN -.- (Probably due to flickering of power over and over. I looked at it and I thought it was on delay but it’s just on/off mode. So it was already a problem when the lights were flickering.

I tried different plugs and It’s not working. The tune DC one. So I am now using the tunze AC one from the LPS tank with co2 scrubber back on.

Waking up and seeing everything lower than usual.

Anyways, I hope everyone is okay.
