My buddy Rocky has a 4 1/2 month old set up, it's a 110 gallon reef with 5 okay sized fish and everything is showing up good levels. Is it just luck or is he heading for fast incline levels?

I only do 20 gallons every three months on my 75, and everything is perfect and growing and nitrates are low, so I think he is probably ok. But then I do have a LOT of live rock and live sand which keeps nitrates down.

very lucky.

it's different if you have a stable system for years that "runs" on it's own and automated (still not smart)...........................luck will run out.

If his nitrates are at good levels and he doesn't have a ton of live rock, your test kit is bad or he isnt feeding the fish. :)

He is heading for nitrate overload and an algae problem (assuming he has lights on the tank).

Really not enough info to say. Skimmer size ,feeding habits, organic removal etc. Even if he does not experience elevated levels of nitrates and phosphates he will eventually deplete other major and minor elements .

Yeah check it against another test kit. Mine apparently went bad and with my heavy load I was confused how my NO3 were around 20...then I tested with a new kit...not so low. I have to do 35 gallon changes biweekly on my 140 just to stay below 20.

I started him on saltwater after he got tired of seeing 2 Oscars in a 55gal tank that was boring.............[/QUOTE]

You should be banned simply on musical choice. ;)

As I mentioned to you all and Rocky at TIm's after seeing the pictures....that tank is a recipe for disaster in my opinion. SO much rock tightly stacked with no way to get good flow around it. He'll end up with detrius/food buildup in that rockwork along with no waterchanges and BOOM. Trates will be off the charts before he knows it. Please convince him to take a powerhead to the rock on a regular basis and start doing those PWC's. PLEEEAAASSSEEEE:D

So Justin does your tank and you do Rocky's.....LOL. Does Rocky manage Justin's:D

Oh when this video was taken the elegance and torch was just put in the tank no less than a few hours thats why they look as they do but they look much better now
