Background. I have a RBTA that was about 5” when I got it. I was always bubbled up very nice. My clowns took to it pretty quick and everything was fine. Then it split and stopped bubbling. Not long after that I went through the outbreak of Brooklynella and lost the clowns. The RBTA never bubble again except on rare occasions and only a little bit.

Now, I have a pair of mature clowns that choose a torch as a host but in the past couple of days the male discovered the RBTA and has hardly budged. The first day I thought he was dead and half eaten because he had his head in so far. I noticed immediately the RBTA was bubbling a bit. Now after a few days, the female has also discovered she likes the RBTA and it has bubbled even more.

So, I am curious how many BTAs that are not hosts do not bubble and how many that do host bubble up nice. I know it is not scientific but might prove to be a fun observation since everything I have read says no one knows why they do or don't.

Since this is a non -scientific Poll :)
I'm with the no one knows group. I have 5 different nems and I've seen clones act exactly opposite of their partners in different tanks. No clue, except I do think that all animals go through phases when they react to stimulus differently.

I suspect that will be the result but thought it might be fun to get some data and contemplate it (or is that "constipated it").

Mine host a pair of gsm clowns. No bubbles.

My clowns wont host on anything including the rbta. My rbta changes throughout the day feom bubble to strings. Guess its a mystery

Looking pretty random so far. LOL. Keep those votes coming. If you have a BTA we want to see your vote.

My maroons are harsh on BTAs, though now by letting the nem sitting up top the fish only host when they are sleeping at night. Odd fish.

I have 3 Gbta (bought one and it split and then one split again)no clowns will host them and none of them bubble completely

I almost wonder if they bubble in low flow environments to catch more food and current?. I rarely feed my bta and he has split and both have flourisrd no one hosts them and they have stayed bubbly since I've had em

Definitely in the "unexplained" category. My bta has bubbled nicely without being hosted.

I noticed one of my plats trying to host the scoly last night. I'm hoping it won't happen as he could be an expensive meal for the scoly.

not to thread jack, but if growth is not desired, is direct feeding still needed? My RBTA seems fine, I just want to make sure it wont just melt one day.

Don't mind at all. I am sure I others will chime in as well. Many say they don't need feeding and others say "Oh my God!!! You are not feeding them?"

I used to feed mine silversides but he stopped eating them. Now I give him a shoot of the same frozen food I feed the fish about once or twice a week.

I rarely feed mine and it grows and spits about once a year. I do have a pair of clowns hosting in it so they may feed it but I have not noticed it if they are. Mine is below an overdriven 250DE MH light so it may get enough food from the light.

Had a gbta that never stopped bubbling and my clowns completely ignored it for over a year then one afternoon I came home and found both clowns nestled in all nice and cozy. Nem just kept bubbling until the day it tried crawling into my koralia power head
