I am planning my next tank and would like it to be a mixed reef w/ primarily sps. I am looking at the super squirt w/ 2 ea revolutions so after all said and done just for those 3 items i am looking at around $400. Yes thats alot of money and I would rather not spend it but I will if its the best case scenario.

My next option is to Bulid a 4 way manifold and have current flowing in the same are. I already have a sequence snapper so basically i would plumb that into a CLS w/ 4 ea returns drilled through the back of the tank. It would be the same amount of flow but it would not be alternating.

Pros of OM units

1. random currents

2. better coral growth

3. more suspended organics and particles

Pros of having a CLS without a OM unit.

1. Less plumbing

2. Lower electricity

3. Less noise and heat

4. Lower cost, just the cost of pvc.

Chris...I have the 3 way (mod 4-way) squirt amd a revolution on my frag tank. You can take a look at it when you stop by. It produces excellent flow and randum movements. I realy like the combo, just wished I had is as a CLS not on my return. I am looking at making that modification sometime soon.

ok well the if u get the om unit it will be better for ur corals unless if the heat get too hight. i would vote for the om unit it will pay in the long run.

If you want to see the 4-way in action check out justonemoretank's tank. He lives in roswell as well. It's pretty nice.

The problem with the supersquirts and the only reason I didn't go that route is that the motor is reported to be fairly loud and I'm a bit of a noise nazi.

Report is incorrect. There is not even a negligible sound coming out of it.

I think we have a misunderstanding :). The squirts are the quietest of the bunch by far. So your experience is in line with that. The supersquirt is reported as noisy.

The squirts use a clock motor whereas the supersquirt use a thermostat motor. One is built to be quiet and the other just reliable.

Opps...sorry! I forgot there are 2 versions. Squirt and Super Squirt. I stand mistaken!

Bit of a non sequitur?

Anyhow, I have a 4-way and absolutely love it. Can't speak for the squirt or super squirt, but the 4-way is absolutely silent. Plumbing was a pain, though...

Agree 100% with jessezm - I've also got a OM 4-way, and it's one of the most solid pieces of equipment I've got.

The extra drum option allows you to get one or more drums that are drilled differently, allowing your flow to change accordingly. You could get a drum with only one output at a time, two at a time, two together, opposed, etc.

Hmm...didn't know about the drum options. I bought mine used. Does anyone have a extra drum that allows the flow to go to one port at a time that they want to sell or trade?

i have seen the om in jesse's tank and it works great... however for me i hate the thing... when i had it in my tank, the drum would get stuck every couple of days because the tiniest piece of dirt would get loged in it, even though my intake was 10 inches off the sand bed.. i would have to disasemble the whole thing often to clean it out.. maybe i just had a defective unit... it sucked because then i had holes for a closed loop that i couldnt use.. i ended up going with a tunze wavebox... now thats a piece of equipment that rocks....

Yes--the Tunze wavebox is impressive indeed! You can see the entire level of the water rising and falling a good couple inches on Jaime's 300g tank! that is a good sound investment.

How much was the wave box. And what does it entail?? How does it work ?

If you're interested in the wavebox and can wait a little while, dawgdude is attempting to make a knock-off at a fraction of the price using a resun wavemaker PH.

Dawgdude, have you received the power supplies for these yet?

here is a link i found to it and i think it has a pump that pushes water into a box and then releases all the water with pressure and makes a wave. that is how someone at the lfs told me it works.

You're close. The pump pushes the water out of the box, then the pump is turned off and the pressure differential floods the box again.
